Kinda regret selling 67 coupe and 03 Mach 1.
Don’t regret selling the GT500 or S550 GT.

Advice: Keep your 96’ forever and rack some miles on it. Add another mustang to your stable.

I’ve had over 30 mustangs in over the past 10 years. I’m only 31 right now, I can assure you that out of all of my cars the 2 that I miss the most is the car I built when I was 17. I loved the hell out of that car. The price tag that I would give to have it back just for sentimental reasons would be astounding. If you’re like most of us on here it’s about nostalgia. I’ve had every year mustang ever made including cobras, and GT500’s. I loved my 2017 GT. It was all around a great car with the track pack premium. However at the end of the day I love driving my 1988 foxbody, and my 2003 cobra just for the raw feeling you get when driving them. As stated above you WILL NOT find another clean SN95 for $10k. The ones I’m looking at are thru the roof. The SN95 is the last Mustang I need to complete my collection and it seems I’m finding dead ends on clean ones. I can promise you that you’ll kick yourself in the ass a couple years down the road. Especially if you sell it to someone you know. God forbid they crash it, change it all around and make it ugly.
OP will take $12k for his. Just sayin…

I have not had as many cars as most of you here, but I probably regret selling my 2018 5.0 with the 10-speed the most.

You can see all of the cars that I have owned in my signature and with the money wasted on the cars after I got rid of the 2018, I tell myself I could have easily gone turbo with the 2018 and very easily have made at least a reliable 850 rwhp.

I do like my 2012 CTS-V that I have now, but it is a heavy car, and the creature comforts (stuff that I like) pale in comparison to the 2018.

Good afternoon all!

Have you ever sold a car and regretted it? I have been thinking about selling my ol' 96 Mustang GT. It was my high school car I have had for a LONG time. I have had a lot of memories fun times in the car. At this point all my friends have changed cars like 30 times, but I still got my original car that I have put some work into.

Kind of torn.

Another thought is could I replace this car for 10k? Like if I was in the market could I get another one comparable for 10k?

Any advice is appreciated?

My advice to you up front is...... DON'T DO IT!!!

I had a 1989GT Fox Body that I bought for $6K in 1991. It was originally Cabernet Red with Titanium lower accent paint. The interior was sand beige. I modified it a lot, like you did to your car, to make it my own.

In 2002 I "thought" I had my fill and decided to trade it in for the 380R Roush I have now. I have made some mistakes in my life, but that decision is the "only" one I regret to this very day.

I have been pining for that car for many years now. As a matter of fact in 2014 I found the car and asked the owner if I could buy it back. He agreed, but I had 2 problems, I couldn't afford it at the time (was still paying child support) and my current wife thought I was trying to reconnect to my old life and did not support me buying the car back. So, I asked the guy to wait about 10 months (child support would end) and he agreed. Well during that time the guy wrecked the car. God damn it!!!!

Wrecked.JPG

So, now the car is lost forever, but my desire to have it back has not faded. I've been looking for another Fox Body like mine, but can't find one. So, I decided to request a Marti report just last week. According to the Marti report my car was 1 of only 44 built in that specific color combination/interior color. No way in hell I'm finding one of those other 43. So, I'm looking for any color with the sand beige interior (it has to have sand beige interior). I can find a ton of convertibles with that color interior, but very few GT or LX hard tops (There is an almond color LX on ebay right now with the sand beige interior, but problem #2 above is still present. She thinks I have enough Mustangs now. HA HA HA I laugh at that notion).

I will find a replacement Fox Body one day, but I truly regret trading that car for the Roush. And now it's going to cost me way more money to get a Fox Body back as they are very popular and desirable. They want $25K for the almond one I mentioned above.

So, I say NO WAY in hell do you get rid of your car that you've had since you were 17 or suffer my fate......

Yeah, my 69 V8 fastback I got for $2500 when I was 15.
I had a 70 fastback from when I 16 until 28. It spent more time on jackstands then on the road. I sold it for 4k and gave the guy most of it in boxes. I can only imagine what I'd get for it now.

The funny part is I'm pretty sure I saw it about 6 months after I sold it up and running and I didn't feel sad or anything about it. I was glad the guy got it running.

Mine was in pretty rough condition when I got it but it did run and I drove it on the road twice. It had glass packs on it and it was one of the loudest cars I've ever owned. Floor boards were rusted out of it though to where you could see the road as you drove so it too spent most of its time torn down and being worked on, but I never got it to a point where I was able to really enjoy it, and now I really regret that given I went into body and mechanical repair as a career.

Don't sell it. My first Mustang was virtually identical to yours. 1996 Laser Red GT... I'd consider getting another one some day just for the trip down memory lane. Even though it was a turd, I think it would be a hoot to drive nowadays. Not that I don't like my current lineup, but letting either of them sing through 2-3 gears puts me at triple digit mph and major trouble with the law if I get pinched. The little '96 was fun to launch at 3k and bang a few gears without making a major scene.

Mine wasn't that bad. It had some rust, but I had done a lot of work to it. The reason it went down the last time was because the engine got starved for oil during a cam break in. I pulled it apart to fix it and maybe repair the rust, but then I got into late model stuff and decided I like creature comforts. Sometimes I wonder what I could with the knowledge I have compared to back then, but I doubt I'll ever commit to another one.

OP the answer isn't to sell cars, it's just to acquire more.

The only thing I sold that I regret is my 96 bronco, but at the end of the day it came down to a lack of time, a lack of space, and a lack of money to do a full blown frame off resto. My friend who was going to do the body work for me got busy doing adult things instead which put the final nail in that project coffin. The truck had sat for 5 years in my garage prior, if I dismantled it myself back in 2021 on my 2 post lift I bet it'd still be there as I write this post. So I made a tough call and sold it to a friend of a friend. That truck is still on the road in upstate NY between buffalo and rochester, I told my friends in that area I don't ever want to hear about or see that truck again especially when it inevitably ends up in the JY due to rot finishing it off.

I got the bronco freshmen year of college, but I still have my high school car which is the Marauder, I've had that since I was 15. I'd sooner bury it in my back yard than sell it and see it on the 11 o'clock news tied to a drug deal gone wrong shootout in city center Philadelphia.

There's plenty of nice 1996 Broncos around for sale :)

they're too expensive these days, a friend of mine is considering selling a "northeast flavored" 96 XL 5.0 5spd which I'd consider buying cheap as a beater, but if I wanted the equivalent of my old truck, rust free, I'm looking at like 25-30 grand. With that kind of money I'd buy a terminator.

I regret selling my '02 Ford Explorer, oddly enough. My first "big boy" purchase that I owned for 10 years and personalized to my own taste. Sold it to someone up in Lincoln, NE and I came across a TikTok video that had me wondering if it was my old Explorer or not.

That's why I won't sell my 95 Eddie Bauer. Not making that mistake again like I did my fastback.

Being in the PNW it'll last you basically forever as well. If I had another OBS I'd need an indoor spot to keep it off the road off the winter, rust is why I parked mine. By the time I sold it, a fuel line and brake line blew out.

I had my truck parked outside for 6 months and I swear it degraded faster in that 6 months than the entire time it stayed in the garage
