Yeah, my 848 was super easy. Never got to the big intervals and sold it around 7k iirc, but all I did was LOF the entire time. I did make the mistake of purchasing the extended plan that covered the big services but I never made it to the mileage by the time it expired. Biggest waste of money I've ever spent, but I was young and naive.

My dad, brother and I stopped by the local BMW, Ducati, and Triumph dealer to take a look at the new bikes and it was crazy how much they have all progressed since I bought mine. The quality, styling... and price to be honest was a night and day difference from what I encountered when I bought my Duc. All three of those brands make some amazing bikes.

I had the financing and insurance lined up on a Monster 1200R a few years back and didn't follow through. Now they don't even offer a Monster for grown-ups.
If I had a lot of money to spend on a bike, I might go with the fancy new Norton V4CR...

Agreed on with the comments on the Duc's. Maintenance interval on the Pani and Hyper is 15K miles now. My belief is since Audi took over, Ducati has raised their build quality considerably. The difference between my 2012 1199 and the 2023 V4 is very noticeable. Even rideability is much improved. The 1199 had many known issues with quality and rideability. But even the 1199 was a huge leap over my 916's. As much as I lust after another SPS, the thought of having to deal with that generation of bike pains me. Much better to buy and stick in the living room to stare at. lol.

My Hyper, however, has several very annoying issues. This one I swallowed the red pill and am chalking this up to the "unique Ducati ownership experience". But I do all my own work on this one (the Pani goes in for a proper technician to maintain, not a garage hack like me). To me, that is part of motorcycle ownership. Taking shit apart, upgrading, and maintaining is one of the things I enjoy. So for the Hyper, I can tolerate its bullshit.

I will be adding a Honda Africa Twin next spring. Have an itch for a bike that I can ride in the rain again with. That is oddly satisfying. lol. I may even try the DCT version. Even though that makes me puke in my mouth a tiny bit.

It really does depend on what type of riding you’re looking to do, there are so many bikes available that you should be able to find exactly what you’re looking for.

Without mentioning any naked bikes:

Comfortable sporty - CBR650R
Most powerful “600” super sport - ZX6R
Sporty touring/cruising - Ninja 1000
Best value w- modern technology super sport - R1
All out power & top speed - riders preference of Hayabusa or ZX14R
IMO best all around - GSX-R750

This is not to say that anything not mentioned is bad, but with all the options available, how I ride, and the number of bikes I’ve owned and ridden, these would be my choices.

I was more a fan of canyon carving and hooliganism, types of riding I noticed weren't on your list, but they are probably the best case for riding a naked bike.
Nobody needs a fairing (aerodynamics), doggy-style (face-down/ass-up) riding position or top speed in a canyon, but power, handling and brakes are all still important. If you're going between 30mph and 120mph in a twisty canyon, a big naked is perfect. The upright body position and handlebars make flicking a big bike around fairly easy compared to being tucked in holding clip-ons.
Same for rowdy hooligan riding. I'm not talking about "stunting" in a parking lot, but ripping around doing wheelies for the kids, jumping the railroad tracks, shooting fire out of the exhaust just being a goon in general, you want a high performance bike with ample midrange power and an upright body position. Not some race replica better suited for track days.
The movement toward naked bikes becoming partially faired sport bikes with flat bars departs from what I always loved about them. Why would Ducati put wings on the Streetfighter? Who asked for the fairing on the Tuono? Who thought the MT10 needed fake air scoops? I really don't know who the manufacturers are trying to sell their "naked" bikes to anymore. Not people like me, that's for sure.

I think the change in naked bike styling has been driven by the popularity in the styling of naked bikes in general so they are all pushing for the mean and muscular streetfighter designs which comes with a lot of queues that aren't typical of a naked bike. People got bored of seeing full fairing sport bikes that all started to look the same and they gravitated towards naked bikes for something different and unique. I sure did.

So it's a case of "let's all be unique together on our naked bikes that aren't actually naked". Lol
OMG. I've become such a grumpy old man. What's next, are the youngsters going to start being grumpy old men and ruining that for me too?!

Well I'm a grumpy old man and I love my naked fz10, to each his own.
The first time I even saw a FZ10, I test rode it. I've gone out on the MT10s a couple of times as well. I even stopped by my old dealership to ask about the MT10SP and that said they couldn't get one. Don't get me wrong, it's a great bike. I just don't typically buy things I find ugly. I like naked bikes and just wish they would have made the FZ/MT10 a naked bike.

Been doing little research… it would seem that the true sportsbike market has been demolished…. R6 gone… no real new offerings except the Kawasaki zx6r. No surplus of used bikes…. The few around are demanding new bike prices. Even the Liter bikes dont seem plentiful (at least like they used to back in the early 2000s). All these sub 600cc variants… lol

The new faggety thing is “naked” bikes… “i WaNt nAKeD bikE, gAYs!”… its like the skinny jeans and manbun special… lol

Jesus. WTF!

Thanks to this thread I am thinking of getting a new bike. I have my eye in the Fireblade 1000 rrrrrr sp rrrrr rr rrrrr. It will be riden very rarely but I assume I can sit in it and make some money. Thoughts?

Ive done a little reading on that one…. Apparently the Honda TO have. Very much a race team track bike…

If you have the coin, go for it, bro!

I know you hate it, but the Europeans have a lot of options that cover the performance range of the 600-750cc range although they are using bigger engines. If you look at their lineups they have tons of options and different models. To be honest, I see Ducatis on the road way more now than ever before, and it's usually various Penigales I see. Ducati's new Penigali V2 is 955cc and makes 155hp, MV Augusta has the Superveloce 800 which is a throwback in styling and has 140hp, and then Aprilia has the RS660 which has 100hp.

I'm tempted between the V2 and the MV in these photos. The V2 is the successor to my Evo and I'm a sucker for the stealth black models, but that Superveloce is freakin cool in that color and styling!
