when other mustang/sports car guys see me get in or out of mine, i get the standard "is that a real terminator?" conversation. i say yes. they say NICE!

that does not happen with any other mustang that i'm aware of.

i've never seen a clone of a modern gt500 or gt350.

nobody looks at a new mustang gt as being anything special. there is value in that, no matter what.

when i was shopping for a car, i found a 2008 or so gt500 with a whipple for $25k. i almost bought it, but i found my terminator and got it instead.

The terminator takes some work but the stock long block is capable of 750 to 800rwhp. Few cars now days still can handle that without motor work. Lot of people love to mod not a lot like to build motors.

A while back i considered a gt500 but none of them can make more power in a stock long block and live. If i have to completely build a motor i might as well build a killer 4.6.

With mods, you can safely get a GT500 to 750-800rwhp as well. The GT500 is essentially a bigger and more modern version of the Terminator, with the rods being one of the main differences in the engines (Terminator has better rods). From a collector standpoint, I like the 2-year run for the 03/04 cars and 1-year run for the Mystichrome package, whereas the GT500s were made for 8 years. If the GT500s were only made for 2-years as well, it would be more of a collectible, but there are too many made for too many years. That’s why my Shelby has more miles on it than the 5 Cobras combined.

Exactly same hp capability for a larger car and higher taxes/insurance, no thanks. The only thing that even begins to make sense is a boss 302 or 2018 5.0.

Higher Taxes and Insurance? You in Europe?
You don't pay property tax on your vehicle? You drive without insurance?

New more expensive vehicles cost more in taxes per year. Newer more expensive vehicles are more to insure and im sure 662hp is more to insure than 390.

Yup and registration here goes based off the value of the car as well. A $35k GT500 will cost more to register than a $25k cobra.

Its not a big deal but to me it all factors in. If i was going to switch away from the terminator and stay Ford id need it to be capable of more than 850-900rwhp on a stock long block. I really dont want to drop Ford so i haven't looked at others.

I hear you 100%. The strengths of the mighty cobra are hard to beat. Shit even the cars moniker is badass, termi.

Heavier car, newer cars typically cost more for auto insurance than older cards, Higher tax on purchase because the GT500 has a higher overall price tag.
No they don't. They cost a factor of their repair cost, replacement cost and pay out frequency.

I bet a Gt500 and Cobra are a hair apart in both regards.

Gotta remember the cost of importing and registering these cars overseas.

In Norway it was a 100% import luxury tax + the cost to actually ship, hired a broker and bond company and then the cost of converting for Euro safety. (taillights, fender lights and safest warning stickers, etc). I'm sure Finland isn't much different.

Combine that with the obvious rarity, $60k isn't outrageous.

A few guys have owned Mustangs in Japan and Germany and those cars got mad crazy attention from the Locals.

I sold my 54000 mile mg coupe last week for roughly what i paid for it 5 years ago. I would say thats a good indicator on values considering from what ive gathered over the years that mineral gray just isnt a favorite color by most. Mind you, i did put alot of personal touches on the car that i sold as is. Im sure i could have taken a lot of those things off and sold them and made some of my money back. So did I profit from the sale?absolutely not. But i love working on my cars probably as much as driving them. So for me thats not really a loss.

How many other cars can you guys mention that arent high dollar old school muscle or high dollar collectors period that hold their values that well. I dont see the gt500 doing it, but they arent quite as old as the cobras and more built. A newer gt is going to continue to depreciate just like any other domestic car. I think for price point these cars are hard to beat. Especially if your like me and get bored of your car and need a new project every 3 to 5 years. Im pretty sure if i found a newer mustang and paid for what i sold mine for, modded it and owned it for 5 years I wouldn't be able to sell it for what i paid for it.

How many miles did you put on the car in those 5 years? If you bought it, drove it quite a bit over 5 years and then sold it for what you paid for it, I think that is fantastic!

Property Taxes in KS for a 2013 GT500 Coupe - $558.64
Property Taxes in KS for a 2003 Cobra Coupe - $67.86

Insurance is tougher to get because it requries filling out information and waiting to be contacted by companies, but you're crazy if you think they're similar. GT500 rated at more horse power and depending upon year is a $10-25k more than a terminator. You have to pay for that extra cost and risk.

I don't know if maybe some how you have a vehicle loan and all the costs are done in escrow like a house or where you live its drastically different for some reason (no property taxes) but this is how it is in my world.

Property tax on a car.......that's messed up, more legalized rape from the state and/or government. That would be like putting auto insurance on your house.

I don't have property tax on my cars, but I do have it on my boat. According to California if I can afford nice things I need to pay more for it.
