My dad bought another gas job 2500 pickup a few months back. He’s put a few thousand on it his guys have driven it on occasion as well. Last week it started running rough then just died sitting in traffic. The dealership sent a tow truck to pick it up and they called him a few days later saying number 3 piston was cracked and they’re rebuilding the motor. So much for these amazing LS engines.

Why wouldn’t GM just drop in another engine. I find it hard to believe they’re rebuilding it.

Man, that sucks. I would be pissed.
I don't really like any GM product except for the Corvette and Camaro anyways.

shit happens and if I were to judge a motor by random failures I would have never touched a coyote powered car...the FB coyote groups would have you believe the 18+ cars are all ticking time bombs, similar rhetoric for early cars, but not nearly as bad.

Meh. I have 215k on my 5.3 and it does just fine. Man makes it, it can break.

Pick your poison.

I have had several LS powered vehicles, two of them 5.3s in trucks and never experienced any issues other than some occasional lifter noise in the DoD motors. I have beaten them all like a rented mule too.

no argument there, really on the groups to pick up used parts on the cheap and for the comic relief, seriously some funny ****ing shit gets posted by those morons.

Hopefully just random, 236k and still going on my 5.3. Only things I’ve done to it are change the oil/filters and a water pump at 219k. Still pulls 17mpg too.

265k on the 5.3 in my 04 Envoy, still runs great but showing its age now. Burns 2 qts between oil changes. Upgrading soon. lol

You checked the valve stem seals? Almost every time I’ve pulled a high mileage one apart, the rings/bore looked fantastic and it usually ended up being something in the top end.

The 6.0 gas engine has been produced for 20 years now. It is non DOD and has been proven to last well into 300,000 miles. Crap happens sometimes and it sucks.

Those seals definitely wear out in higher mile motors. I would start there, also check pcv valve, GM redesigned it years ago to small orifice opening.

That's why you have a warranty. I would not sweat it in the least bit.

Now if you had another car....of the Ford variety....that rhymes with 'tree thrifty...….'
