The ZL1 is a pony car, too. There are a great many of us who simply don't want a ginormous car. It's called preferences. There are still people lining up to pay MSRP+ for GT350s even though they could stroll right over to a Chevy dealership and pickup a brand new ZL1 for as much as $15K below MSRP.

true, i agree on your preferences and gt350/zl1 comments.

regarding pony/muscle cars- i still see a shit ton of people using these terms interchangeably- many call mustangs, camaros, etc. pony cars and others muscle cars...i think there are 'technical' definitions' (case in point i found this- Here is how they define Pony Car: “An American class of automobile launched and inspired by the Ford Mustang in 1964. The term describes an affordable, compact, highly styled car with a sporty or performance-oriented image.” ... A Pony Car is small, and a Muscle Car is somewhere between mid-size and full size.................................................i also found this- The Chevrolet Camaro is an American automobile manufactured by Chevrolet, classified as a pony car and some versions also as a muscle car. It went on sale on September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year and was designed as a competing model to the Ford Mustang............................and this- Muscle car is an American term used to refer to a variety of high-performance automobiles. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines muscle cars as "any of a group of American-made 2-door sports cars with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving."

You can throw that Merriam-Webster definition away. Mustangs and Camaros are pony cars, not muscle cars. V8 Challengers/Chargers, the Chevy SS sedan, and (dare I say) the Taurus SHO are muscle cars. (Along with a few cars from the Germans.) The Mustang was built for two reasons; 1) Carroll Shelby wanted something to race against Corvettes (yep!) and 2) to be a working class man's GT/sports car. The Mustang literally defined the class, hence them being called "pony" cars. There were several pony cars in the late '60s and early '70s. The Mustang and Camaro are the only survivors.

The expectations are only climbing with those waiting to purchase one. For everyone else the excitement over the release has faded.

Either GT500 beats the new Hellcat Redeye and I buy one from Ford... Or it doesn't and I'm visiting a Dodge dealer. Ford, you have until 2020...

I could not care less about the GT500 beating the GT350 on a road course. If I want a car for the twisties I'll buy a Porsche. I buy my pony cars / muscle cars to drive fast and straight

Even if you thought the Hellcat looked like complete ass compared to the new GT500 you would still buy it even if it was only 1% faster?

I don’t see the GT500 running faster than 10.8 on stock rubber so just order a Redeye.

I do see the GT500 competing or beating the Porsche 991.2 turbo on a road course at half the price. You still want a Porsche?

Remember power is not everything. The Red Eye has 80 more hp over the new 717 HC and yet it’s only .1 faster in the 1320.

I forgot you only think in 100% stock terms.
Any real driver has a DR (or R compound like R888R) on their Hellcat or GT500 if you care about street/strip and if so, 797hp with huge mod potential in the Redeye can’t be beat.
If the GT500 makes less than 750hp it’s a Stinkeye :)

At what point do you stop caring so much about which car on a prepped track is faster in the Quarter Mile and start thinking about the way it looks and feels to drive?

You forgot once you start nodding, one only cares about how much money you spend.
Might as well go with the Tuned RS7.

That being said I’d jump at the chance to have non wide, red eye in F8 green and a stick!

The nearest drag strip to me is 176 miles away and a 3 hour drive. So I could care less about drag racing, although I do like to watch. Having said that, there are quite a few hills around with nice tight turns that I enjoy driving on, so something closer to a GT350 with more bottom end torque would be fun.
I hope that the new GT500 comes with some decent sized tires that can handle the power, if not, it's will just be another expensive smoke show.

This is the point you stop caring about power. On high octane fuel, I'm putting 790bhp to the wheels. Not crank. Wheels. Enjoy the turns, I'm heading to outer space!

Dodge just did to ford with this red eye exactly what ford did to Chevy with the 2013 gt500.

Just completely mogged.

You guys talkin about twistys and curves are complete cope.
Dodge became what you hoped ford would be.

The end.

Sorry friend there is more to a car then just numbers.

This! If I was looking to buy a 600+hp muscle car, it would more boil down to looks, available options, ride quality, performance level all-around, interior comfort, ergonomics, price, etc. At first blush, my choice would be a wide-body Challenger Hellcat because IMO it's the best looking of the three (Mustang, Camaro, Challenger). But my final decision would come after test driving all three and looking at the equipment/option packages. If in the end a Camaro or Mustang model was faster/quicker on a prepped track, that would be secondary to the exterior design, and to a lesser extent the interior design and features/packages.
