Dear Brad: I think there may be hope for this thread to end on a high note after all. I received an apology from one member, and there appears to be some feeling of remorse by a member or two. My feeling is that at least the discussion was had, and there will never be an unanimous vote on was this right or was this wrong. // Full disclosure. // As I reflect on this, it is hard to imagine that all I am attempting to do is sell a car. I ended up attempting to protect my daughter and perhaps my reputation. You all know my name and where I live, and I have a reputation to protect. Yes, my daughter is an adult, and never asked me to defend her - it did not stop me from trying to get you guys to leave her out of the discussion - again, I am trying to sell a car. // Apparently, there is a difference of opinion (once) about my gearbox. My daughter drove it once, and commented to me that she had difficulty shifting into reverse on a cold start. I simply attributed that to the long reach to reverse, and it was a cold start day. She also drives a BMW to work and those cars shift much more smoothly and with less effort. I have not driven my daughter's '04 coupe, so I cannot comment on the difference between my gearbox and her's. There was a written description of my car on another webpage that mentioned competition orange fade. I did not write that. I never accused my daughter of lying, and I did not "throw her under the bus" as someone suggested. It was a difference of opinion. My daughter's '04 coupe was repainted from the front bumper cover to the windshield three years ago. Yes, compared to a repainted competition orange coupe, the original paint on my car does not look as brilliant as a repainted car. But again, I would contest the faded description. I freely admit to the presence of small, salt & pepper type rock chipping on the forward edge of the hood, and in the area forward of the hood vents. The bumper cover is free of any rock chips, the difference I presume being rubber and metal. The car shows one universal color. I only know one previous owner, and I was told the car wears all of its factory paint. // I do not know who "Smooth" is, he stated that he tried to buy my car and he "exposed me". I have no idea what he is talking about. If "Smooth" is from Wisconsin as his profile states, I do know have any recollection of a serious buyer from that state. // Two buyers looked at the car from North Carolina. One declined to buy the car, but did not give me a reason. He pointed out a "spider crack" on the left corner of the rear bumper cover. I was not aware of the fault until it was pointed out to me. I am unable to photograph the area to show up on film. But again, he thanked me for showing him the car, but did not give me a reason for not purchasing. // Second prospect from North Carolina arrived. We were actually at the teller window at my bank, title signed over to the new owner - when prospect no. 2 got pre-purchase buyer's remorse, and actually halted the purchase as the bank's machine was rapidly counting his hundred dollar bills. He said he realized he could not part with the money that had taken him several years to save. // Could have sold the car five (5) times if I provided financing. Young men with no credit, no savings, trying to purchase their "dream car" - direct quote - five times. // My eBay name is "sunbeamtigerr" - I owned three of those cool little British sports cars powered by a Ford 260 V8 and the brain child of none other than Carroll Shelby and his Southern California friends with the full cooperation of the Sunbeam Motor Company. // The car is routinely serviced at Joe Cooper Ford of Edmond, Oklahoma. At no time has any service advisor, or mechanic made an verbal comment to me or any written statement on a service invoice, that the transmission is in need of attention, repair, overhaul or replacement. So, I will politely decline any comments about the transmission synchros. I replaced a shift ball with the original SVT shift grip - and I think that has a small positive affect on the ease of reaching and shifting into reverse. I thinks its all about personal feel. // The original blower pulley cover has been reinstalled in the engine bay - with two small bolts. When I bought the car it was in the trunk because the seller said it was loose, and rattled, so he took it off, rather than tighten the bolts. It's a non-issue. // I said Full Disclosure. I am not a car salesmen, no dealer's license. I am a self described car enthusiast, that has watched and read about cars since I was seven years old, read Road & Track, read Hot Rod Magazine, and grew up liking Formula I, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, muscle cars and sports cars. I just want to drive another car for his daily driver. The Cobra is more horsepower than anyone ever needed, but it sure is fun. The clutch pedal spring is a brute, and I'm tired of buying premium unleaded. It's time for another car. // Dealer offered me $20,000. Said he would resell it for $25-27,000. He can provide financing - his secret weapon. // I will accept $22,000.00 cash for the Cobra. It's a fair number, and less than I paid for the car 2 years ago. // I know you can not make every one happy, but I also do not need any new enemies. // So, I hope I did not pour any gasoline on this simmering fire. As I said before, this was suppose to be about selling a car. // JJG
