Got the game plan ironed out for the next round of mods on my quest for 9's. Just picked up a new Miller MIG and hope to have this ironed out over the next couple weeks.

Weight Reduction

• Tubular front and rear bumper (-50 lb)
• ¼ tank vs full tank of fuel (-50 lb)
• Fiberglass deck lid (-15lb)
• Install DS Kirkey seat with aluminum bracket (-30lb)
• Front and Rear Optic Armor scratch resistant polycarb glass (-30 lb)
• Sound deadening and other odds/ends (-25 lb)
• TOTAL = (-200 lb)

Power adds

• 18" collector extensions (+10 hp)
• Better DA - last track outing was 3200' hopefully around 1500' next round (+10 hp)
• TOTAL = (+20 hp)

Tuning/Tune-up

• Dial in A/F and 30-32* ignition timing (+10 hp)
• Factory heat range spark plugs at .045 gap (unsure on hp increase if any due to dual plug setup)
• New fuel filters for pre and post pump (Holley 162-566 and 162-559)
• Red Line synthetic 5w20 motor oil, lighter weight tranny fluid, and lighter weight rear end fluid (+8 hp to wheels)
• Raise limiter to 7200 and shift at 7000 (more power under the curve for RPM drop between gears)
• Raise front tire pressure to 40= psi for less rolling resistance
• MSD 2-step to 6500-7000 launch RPM
• TOTAL = (+18hp, plus getting down the track more efficiently)

Suspension

• Install Team Z anti-roll bar
• AFCO Double Adjustable rear shocks custom valved by TRZ
• Verify pinion angle at -2 degrees with new digital InterComp gauge - Harbor Freight FTL
• Remove rear spring isolators dropping rear ride height moving out IC
• AJE heim joint tubular front A-Arms - Poly's are binding and fighting the spring rate
• SN95 front Strange 10-ways for more front end travel
• TOTAL = .15 reduction in 60' hopefully

Grand TOTAL = (-200 lb, +38 hp)

• Target at least 510 rwhp (600 flywheel hp) and 2700 lb race weight
• Target at least 9.99 at 134 mph 1.35-1.37 60’ at 1500' DA

I think better DA alone will get you pretty close to 9's. You know I am going to want a set of those bumpers, so you might as well make two sets:dancenana:

Still have not taken all the weight out of it yet (have 75 lb more to go), but make some good test hits sorting out the new suspension mods. I have about a tenth left to hit my goal in the 60'. Made 5 hits all in the 10.30's to the 10.50's with the best being the timeslip below. DA was in the 1800' range and AFR's were 12.5-12.7 with 30 degrees total in it, and about 2850 with me due to a little over a half tank of fuel. Here is a little GoPro action as well. Progress......

Nice pass Matt! Your rowing those gears!

Haha, thanks bro. Once you go faceplated you'll never go back. This Liberty trans is so silky smooth on the power shift and once you get the hang of it on the street, it's really no issue. It's definitely the way to go for 7k'ish + RPM stick shift street/strip combos. We need to send your old trans out eventually :)

Man those vids are sweet Matt!!!
Looks like a bit of movement on the launch, does it spin much?
Maybe some ET in the 60', the 75# and lower DA. Plus finding small gains with tuning and shift points.
Will be a fun chase to the 9s.
Can't imagine what that motor would do with a built 427" shortblock.
Quick question, I've always kept the trans in gear after the trap and let the motor coast down while breaking, any reason to go to neutral right away?
Love the Liberty vids, I went 9.84 with a synchro'd TKO600 but 62-6400rpm shift points, would love to try the face-plate set-up!

Thanks J! Yeah there is .17-.2 on the big end left with a .1 better 60'. I have a feeling the suspension is getting near the sweet spot and the clutch is hitting the tires too hard. Probably going to have to shim the pressure plate .015-.025 to soften the hit. Throwing it on a buddy's Mustang Dyno today to see if I can find any other gains with timing and AFR, but the plugs showed 30* to be 1/16" above the weld - any more might be pushing it on 91. If anything the dyno will allow me to optimize my shifts for the most area under the curve. I'm guessing it'll make around 480 on his dyno. I'll post up the stuff later tonight or tomorrow night. Yeah the only thing with your trans is that powershifting wears the syncros pretty quickly. You won't regret the faceplate, but with the turbo setup if you want 8's you know what you have to do.....As far as the engine braking vs neutral, I've just always done it that way.....not an engine braking kind of guy I guess. Talk soon bro!

Well, I had a super successful day on my buddy's Mustang Dyno. Baselined the car on my same tune that I ran 10.30 at 133.41 and it put down 475 rwhp and I believe 438 ft-lb. We crepth up on the timing and ended 4 degrees higher than the base tune at 34 total. The timing leaned out the car slightly to a better range (12.6-12.8:1) so I didn't mess with the jetting after the timing bump. We ended at 491 rwhp which I'm very pleased with; solid gain of 16 hp and it's all across the curve with 10-16 all above 4500. Learned the car also needs a 7200-7300 shift - makes me pucker slightly with the stock rod bolts. Lastly, we removed the filter to see if it'd gain, but the 4 inch tall 14 inch diameter K&N is flowing a ton for no losses there. All in all a great session.

Here are a few of the dyno graphs. The torque numbers are not accurate because we were messing with loading the RPM based on wheel speed due to not having an inductive pickup. We baselined at 30* (475 rwhp and 438 ft-lb), then bumped total timing to 32* and it put down 481 rwhp and 439 ft-lb below in the dotted. The solid line (488 rwhp) was 34* at a hotter temp with no air filter - the torque was not accurate due to the rpm being off.

This is the max 34* (491 rwhp) with air filter and a cooldown with likely around 440+ ft-lb. It didn't like 36* (486 rwhp), 34* was the sweet spot netting a 16 hp gain over 30*. Can't wait for the track on Friday. Windows should be here Thursday so taking out 75 lb total, putting in the Moroso trick springs (2 DS 90 lb'ers) cut to ride height, 7200-7300 shifts, new strut and shock adjustments, and fingers crossed - SINGLE DIGIT timeslips.

Even better news, I just scored another complete 6.2 SOHC new in the crate from Ford on a deal I could absolutely not pass up. You can't even get these from Ford anymore as they are discontinued. Look for another 6.2 swap coming soon - likely keeping this one stock with fuel injection and VCT with just the D1SC ProCharger I have left over controlled by an AEM Infinity! It'll be a purely "street car" build in another fox, but full weight with all the amenities - for my wife's sake on a budget lol. Can't wait!

Will that even fit under a proper hood for a street car? I find anything over a 3" cowl starts getting "over the top" lol.

Ford discontinued the 6.2 sohc crate motors?

With k member spacers, redoing the motor plates and milling the intake sightly it should. Ford has a part number listed for the complete drop-in, but it hasn't been available for as long as I've been researching. The motor in-transit to me is a pre-production engine from the 2010 timeframe (cast covers). Ford currently offers a complete stock longblock for $5k but it doesn't include any of the FEAD or fuel injection/wiring/sensors, etc. Plus I believe it's reman'd unfortunately.

It should fit under a 3" cowl or stock hood? If you can get that bad boy to fit, I know what my next project is haha. It is too bad a carbed intake won't fit with the 6.2 or coyote under a 3" cowl.

5k seems like a lot of cash for a reman'd motor with no fixings. Junkyard pull would probably cost half that!

Loving the build so far!
