You have to extend the throttle body wires 40"??? Dang! That sounds excessive. What is so different about the location of the throttle body that you would have to do that?

The cam covers should look good once done. Good luck on the full build.

I have no clue what he is talking about... all you have to do is unpin the stock throttle body wire connector and repin the new FRPP connect for the throttle body wire harness FRPP supplies... Must be a typo or something.

I think he is referring to the evap purge solenoid/valve
On a boss/cobra jet it's on dr side near rear of intake vs by throttle body on regular 5.0 intake

I left mine in stock location laying in valley of block and used a hose from intake to nipple of the valve and didn't have to extend wires or waste money on a boss intake install kit

Sorry, yes the purge valve is what I should have been talking about extending. I will go back and edit that post. Stupid Gin and tonics!!! :kaboom:

Trying to decide if I should start the intake install Wednesday and hope that CAI get here within a day or so of that? I'll be on my 3 days off starting Monday, the weather is supposed to finally be a little nicer, which has got me in the mood.

I did paint the coil covers. Old Ford Blue, black and then clear over that. All the paint is high-temp.

I don't have time to really expand, but got out of most of my overtime today. Installed the CJ intake. Went really well right up until the CAI came from FedEx just as I was ready for it!! I thought that was a great sign. The Rev Auto is a massive beast and the absolute limit of what will fit in the space. I fought the CAI as long as I did the rest of the installation. It will go on about one way. I'll expand more later on this. Not dogging Rev Auto, but people should know it WILL fight you though!! lol

A quick run for about 20 minutes. My 1st impressions are if there is a torque loss on the low end I really couldn't tell it. Didn't beat on it hard, damn what a monster on the big end!! Be back later tonight for more details.

What did you do with the extra hose the autos come with that go to the brake booster?

Not sure what your referring to? But everything had a place to go. Rev Auto asked me specifically if the car was an auto or manual, so there must be something different. I don't have a manual car for reference?

Back to when the installation went wrong. All was great until the CAI arrived from FedEx. You would think this would be a 5 minute deal, but the opposite occurred. While trying to wrestle it onto the throttle body I noticed that the upper passenger side mounting bolt flange on the intake was cracked!! I swear I didn't do anything to make that happen. I wonder if I wasn't a victim of FedEx gorilla's when it shipped from 01bluesnake, like happened with maico (spelling?) and I just didn't notice it when I inspected it? I really didn't want to go ahead with the install, but I have had a crazy day and going back to stock wasn't an option I wanted to do.

So I continued TRYING to get the coupler on. I'm telling you if it's not impossible to get it on, it's really close to it. I never could get it on with the throttle body in place. So I did what I didn't want to. I figured it would be easier to get it together on the bench and leave the clamps loose. So when I went to take the throttle body loose from the intake, the mounting ear I mentioned cracked further to the point of basically being completely separated!! SOB!!! It's an f'ing CAI, how hard can it be?!??! But again, I had decided I wasn't going backwards. And when I put the throttle body on with 3 bolts it does seal up very well. I realize it puts extra pressure on the other ears which aren't exactly stout to begin with, but I will try to fix the ear on my next three days off.

So what I did was to get the coupler on both the TB and CAI with the clamps as loose as possible, but still clamping the two together. I then would walk it over to the car and check the fit of the throttle body to the intake. Loosen the clamps a little and tweak it, re-check fit and just keep doing that until there wasn't interference anywhere. Then completely tightened up the clamps. Now installed the assembly onto the intake with my 3 cap screws that were usable.

Again I don't want to sound like i'm beating up on Revolution Auto. It does fit, but what a headache. My suggestion would be to strongly recommend that the end going into the TB be changed to where it has the same contour as as the oval TB. It's just incredibly difficult with no room to work to get the tube onto the coupler, it's almost like trying to put a round peg into a square hole. Oh, and i'm sure it was just an oversight, but the clamps included for the coupler didn't have enough travel, so I had to buy the proper clamps. The ones I bought were the same length, but had more usable travel for the worm gear to go.

Now, after all that whining, lets get to the running of the car!! Put the AED Cobra Jet tune on it. The car started and sounded like it always did. After a idling period and check to make sure I didn't miss anything and the TB to intake was sealed it was time for a ride. After a few minutes of just driving around to check on driveability and part-throttle transition, it was apparent that Shaun has this tune down awfully well!! As I was coming up to a stop sign an LS1 WS6 car was flying up behind me. He was making sure to rev the engine as we sat for the other cars to clear the intersection. I did the old double tap on the traction control (no time to turn it completely off). So as I cleared the intersection, and him on my bumper, I matted the gas. The car had already went into 2nd, so this action brought it down into 1st and it was all the traction control could do to reign in the new power!!! I could see the TransAm fighting for traction in the mirror and very quickly losing ground on my bumper!! He then followed to the main road, but alas, traffic wouldn't cooperate. I ended up doing a u-turn at an intersection and he went on his way. While waiting on the light I turned the traction control completely off. So now I had no traffic in front of me for at least a 1/2 mile. So I went WOT and holy crap!! Of course had to walk it through 1st and part of 2nd, then kept if floored and got a wicked 3rd gear!! The upper rpm power is without question stronger than before, it pulls like a freight train. It actually reminded me of my Hellion turbo Cobra as far as the way it pulls.

I realize the roads are slick and i'm on snow tires, but I really didn't notice any loss in low end. Someone mentioned that the car would feel sluggish on the low end and in part throttle transition. I'm an old guy that is very picky on a car driving like stock, and I just didn't witness anything that I would consider ill-mannered in any way. And again, I want to thank Shaun @ AED for pretty much nailing the driveability on the 1st try!! Snow tomorrow, so won't be getting logs for a few days. However i'll be getting more real world driving in rain/snow!! I love technology!! :pepper:

What were you shifting your boss intake combo at ?

What are you shifting this combo at ?

I'm thinking about making a move to the CJ intake, but I'm a M6 w/3.31 and I don't want to change gears.

Nice write up. I was speaking with Drew about my broken manifold..i suggested once I purchase the next manifold, that we fill the 4 voids on the outer mounting ears with a epoxy to strengthen the manifold.. Glad to hear your car runs decent with the set up..

I recently purchased the CJ mani,TB and Ford Racing CAI from FordRacingDirect. The word is the CAI will be shipping sometime in march directly from the factory. FordRacingDirect couldn't provide me with any other details. I'm very pumped about this mod. I'm currently using BAMA for my tuning but after reading some of the other posts I'm wondering if I should consider contacting Shaun @ AED for my tuning. Does anyone know a ballpark figure on what they will charge? I own a SCT tuner.

From the factory the autos come with three hoses off the stock CAI. One for the sound tube which we know you eliminated, one for the drivers side valve cover, and the third to the brake booster for the one way check valve. I don't see the one going to the brake booster for the check valve.

I highly doubt Bama would even have the capability of tuning this combo. They have enough trouble with stock cars.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I'm going to be contacting Shaun @AED to see what it will take to retune my 5.0. Thanks

The CAI just keeps getting pushed back. I heard April, but who knows? There is no other tuner as far as I'm concerned...call Shaun @ AED.

That's exactly how mine is, you just can't see both hoses going to the pipe.
