has anyone used the BNR alternator off ebay instead of the Eagle one??

New High 200 Amp Alternator Ford Mustang Cobra w supercharger 2003 2004 | eBay

I just bought one of their (BNR) 200 amp alts and also a 4 guage power wire about a month ago. So far so good, it makes a solid 14.2V at idle reguardless of what i have on at the time and thats with a 3.5 alt pulley and a #4 lower. One year warranty and a damn good price and the seller has a near spotless feedback score and they look to be long time rebuilders in the alt and starter business.

Did you get the power wire from them as well? Can you point me to any info on the power wire upgrade?

Bought the power wire upgrade from Lethal, its a PA part. Its a nice 4 guage wire upgrade with a 200A fuse built into it to replace the fusible link you remove when installing it.

PA Performance 99-04 GT 4 Gauge Power Wire Upgrade Kit - Alternators - Ignition - 03-04 SVT Cobra

Wow, 50 clams seems kind of steep for a piece of wire and an inline fuse. Am I missing something? Not sure how much this will really help on a 95% stock cobra anyway. I will probably upgrade to the 160 amp alt, ....just because...

I agree with you. I don't remember seeing this alternator in last year's catalog, being identified as one that's compatible for an 03-04. From what I remember, there was always an alternator in that catalog for the Aluminator long block. Not sure if this is the same one but at least its decently price. We'll see in time if it can sustain miles. The warranty on this alternator is pretty lousy though. 3 months I believe.

Well lets hope since it's a Ford part that they can make one that lasts and the piddly 3 month warranty isn't even needed. Playing this game is no fun, but it's still something I have come to expect to have to do more often then not.

Its actually alot nice than the pic shows, and the fuse im sure is half the cost. What is $50 if it helps (even if its only a tiny bit) keep you from melting down a motor due to low voltage?

I believe my ebay 160 is down. 3 years ago I had an oem unit in the car and it was fine at idle and light rpm but at high rpms it would drop voltage. Same scenario happened to me last weekend in high rpms.

I never said it did. I'm running a different setup

So here we are...finding ourselves in a thread about possibly best 03-o4 alternators...and you want to be so coy about an 99-01 Cobra alternator possibly fitting an 03-04 Cobra?

Seriously man...why not be more direct with guys in this thread...as opposed to be cryptic with your posts...?

Please don't post about running a '01 Cobra alternator without posting the particulars.

I mean the ENGINE sub forum of Terminator Talk is rightfully about Terminators.

But I have to play cat and possum with you to get more info on your setup when you mention you run an '01 Cobra alternator...

C'mon you are such a solid member on here man...

Let's not tease people by neglecting to mention that the setup has changed from the OEM 03-04 setup...

Let you know in a couple days....deff gonna be a big dollar one and Ill do a write up / install and will test it for everyone

I paid like $585 for my alternator, it comes with a 10 year warranty which I thought was cool. Since these oem style alternators don't seem up to par I figured i'll step outside of the box it'll save the headache of changing alternators every 6 months then a higher price tag is fine with me.

Nobody won here man. Its not about that. Was just clarifying what appeared to be some very broad generalizations about the experiences we've all had with alternators on our cars. And yes you are correct that many have had multiple alternator issues. Many seem to have an incredibly high failure rate with any alternator that is considered 'remanufactured.' Its such a frustrating problem.

Many have had alternators die after doing a lower pulley and not putting a larger alternator on there. Even Metco recommends a slightly larger alternator pulley on upper ONLY Eatons. Any way, nothing personal buddy.

Neither of mine had a larger pulley on them I may also add, the mechman alternator I bought does come with a larger than stock pulley equipped though. The specs on the thing look very promising so hopefully this one doesn't take a dump like the others. Also, if it matters my ebay alternator took a dump after like a 1k miles of abuse. :burnout:

I believe your has a 2.9 pullet IIRC.

Did you require any modifications or spacers on your alternator install?

And yes it does matter that your Ebay alt died at 1k. Was that a 160amp Ebay alt? Thanks for posting that.

My Ebay alt didn't last 1k miles and that was 2 of them. I would not put one on if you gave me that piece of crap. Advanced Auto alt lasted a week, I have a start and charge and havnt had any issues so far.

The topic is really about "BNR alternators off ebay" In General, has anyone delt with it.

Its not very hard to look directly under my post to see my signature that states I have a Twin Turbo. Everyone else can see it. It's known that you can't run an 03-04 Cobra with a Twin Turbo.

You can find the same 'bolt in' 200amp Littlefuse for ~$5 from a couple suppliers. I am sure its nice, just not sure why I should pay $49 for it.

To each there own, to pay a few more dollars for something that is a no hassle bolt in is worth it to me. No sourcing out and buying fuses, high quality wire or heavy terminals and no fitting, crimping and soldering. Im all for saving my pennies but there is a point when the $20 you save isnt worth the extra time you will put into it to save that $20. Lethal has spoiled alot of us Terminator owners like that... lol
