I'm glad car is running like a beast after changing the fuel filter

I wish I knew if this was due from gas tank crap, the e85 station I have been to 6 out of the 7 fill ups, or fuel lines. I have the fragola lines (1200hp lethal sys)so I don't think that's it. So it's a toss up between a newly converted e85 system or bad gas?

I posted a thread like this awhile ago...

My car came from California and has been on e85 for two years with no issues.
I got the car here in MO, filled it up a few times and started having all kinds of problems with my fuel pressure drop. Filter was clogged to hell, replaced it, now my pressure is still dropping, I am thinking this shit got into my injectors. I know for a fact that it isn't a fuel component related problem, have to be our shitty gas stations here.

Going to pull them off and have them cleaned and see how they look.

I read a bunch of threads on evo and talon forums (with horrible pictures) of clogged injectors that look like they have 3 inches of sticky tar on tips of them...

I went through your pain last week on the dyno.. Fuel pressure drop with new pumps. Took my filter out ( page 2) looked and was clogged as hell. Replaced it with same one but im waiting for a 40 micron stainless I ordered today to jump on dyno next week

New on the left, one in for 2000 or so miles and 14 or so months on the right.

The one I took out a couple months back looked better after 3000 miles and 17 or so months.

Must be bad gas. Do you guys think its due to how long e85 "sits" at the station. And btw I checked my alcohol content w quick test tube test and I read it as min 85%. I can say meniscus was more like at 87. So it wasn't a winter blend.
The station I go to is not a very busy station.

The only problem with the 40 micron is that it will only filter out particles down to 40.

The 10 micron will filter out particles 4 times as small!

Like I said, it's easier to change filters than injectors!

Yea but you can also clean stainless easier right? Brake cleaner and call it a day?

ok, I got mine out this evening. This is the filter that was in the "04sleeper" when I bought it from Kevin about 23 months ago. It's been running e85 the past 6 months...ran pump 93 before that. I have only used 1 facility to run the e85. Happy to say no black gunk!

Black deposits on the filter element are brush material from the pumps. I have done multiple E85 systems and the only time I see filters with black deposits is when there is a dead or dying pump.

I don't think that's the issue. Clearly guy posted he has 600 miles on his new E85 setup and this. So his pumps are dying?

I also saw a few threads on evo forums where guys get new pumps and this shit is still in the filters.
Also my own car was on e85 for two years if not more, not a single problem, same filter. I got the car filled it up twice and there was black goo in the filter...
