I got my car back Friday and man is it nasty!

For everyone that complains about suspension noise. I highly recommend the MM K member, arms and coil overs for the front and the baseline suspension for the rear for the SRA swap guys. Man this car is as quiet as a stock GT but good lord does it hook up better. I can get traction to go and I still have the ability to take turns.

The new Rossler th400 that replaced my POS Abruzzi units is top notch. Guys don’t mess around and get cheap transmissions. Go to the pros because they can build these transmissions to hold power and still work quiet and operate smooth. The cheaper th400 I had sounded like a blender with nuts and bolds in it. I was even told my car wasn’t as loud as others with the junk trans. Now with the new th400 no one knew they could be made to hold power and run so quiet.

Now for the fun!! I have put about 50 miles on the car so far and I LOVE the turbo over the KB I had. This is hands down the nastiest car I have ever been in. It’s well mannered until you get into boost where all hell breaks loose. As for spool time... There is no lag time like the twin screw boys like to think we have. I can be cruising at 40mph at 2k rpm and smash the gas and in the blink of an eye that converter flashes and hits 4k rpm where boost is on full kill. The car just keeps pulling until I let out or the engine lets go. It is insane the feeling you get in your chest when the car pulls and just never stops.

The guys at Street Lethal did a top notch job on this car. Some people might think it took to long but the project snow balled at least 3 times. First was the turbo kit, then the th400 and lastly the SRA. Sprinkle in some parts swaps and junk front struts that we discovered along with back ordered parts. If you want an all out turbo car I highly recommend these guys. Everything that was done to my car was done to the level that it was the shop owner’s car. It is the best work I have personally seen done by a shop and I am one picky guy.

Now its time to get to a track and get the suspension dialed in to see just how fast my junk it.

The shop will be posting updated pics and I will make sure they get over here.

Thanks guys!

I took it to its first car show Saturday and already had my first laugh. I had a young kid come up to me and start talking. He had a stock 86 Fox and was dead set that it could take out any of the newer cars. I told him... oh I dont know the one your are looking at put down 750 ish hp. Then he proceded to tell me that it didnt matter because the old push rod engines made more tourqe and that was what it took to be fast. Then I proceded to tell him that the car made 780rwtq. At that point it turned into a top speed run contest. LOL Ok he had me there. He also did the finger point tap on my fender when he was telling me this. I just looked directly at him and said "Dont touch my car again".

I just dont get some people.

This build has been great to watch. I already saved all the pictures and plan to reference them with my future turbo build. I'll probably being doing a 5.4 swap along with mine.

So the TH400 is good huh? No regrets or missing a 6 speed? I'm constantly debating in my head between TH400 or a build 6 speed. What are the downfalls to the TH400? I know it has 3 gears, so can you still cruise well? I don't want to give up my ability to cruise with the guys. What about that 3rd gear...what is the speed range on it? I'd imagine it would max out a certain point.

I am in the process for getting the car cleaned up. I will get some videos up soon.

I have been planing an engine build but at this stage I have been without it for so long that I am just going to enjoy it for a while. Money is also a factor. I spent almost all my car funds to get it back. LOL

The th400 was worth every penny. Just with I would have went with Rossler from the get go. It lets the turbo spool so much faster and when it is spooled it holdes the RPMs in the powerband longer. That and I can cruise the thing mutch easier. The high grip clutches are not fun in traffic or trying to get into shows when waiting in those long lines.

If you want to know how it cruises just drive your 6 speed in 4th gear at higheway speeds. With the 3.27 gears with 26 inch tires I was turning 2,200rpm at 50MPH. My Hoosier quick times are 28s but I have not had a chance to bolt them up yet to see how they are. As for the high speed runs...keep in mind you shouldn't run the cars hard in over drive anyhow.

I dont miss the 6 speed at all. The th400 shifts as soon as the level is pulled for the next gear. Its like power shifting every shift. One thing that I didnt know was when down shifting there is nothing. Its like going into neutral. So no down shift reving.

The other thing to remember is that the high performance clutches are over $1000 so the th400 option isnt much more than a few clutches when all said and done plus its going to stay together.

Here is the last of the pics of the build!

This is the baseline suspension set up that was installed with SRA.

BTW Those springs were not left in the car. They just used them to get everything in and clearanced. The trans and fuel line were also changed to fit better. (They worked with the IRS but not the SRA)

The car has been back home and painting 11s all over the local roads. I love driving it!!

Great information, thank you! Just got orders to Japan, but once I get back the Cobra will be getting an overhaul. TH400 is sounding pretty nice.

The main reason I was asking about the higher speeds was for highway runs, like 40-140s or 60-160s. I imagine it does that just fine?

Make sure at your earliest convenience you get them axle tubes welded up. Just something I'd have done if youre going to be drag racing it and stuff with all that power.

Not needed. Post up pics of your car so we can find every little thing wrong. I see you puting your 2 cents in every post like you know everything but we never get to see your car.

I am open to donations to build my car how you guys want. Until then I am going to listen to the shop. They informed me that it wasn't needed at this level and to keep an eye on them. If I wouldn't have been ripped off so bad by a member on here that swapped me the IRS for the SRA I would have got it welded. Now do you see why I am bitter? He said it was a bolt in and it was missing so many parts that I went strait to the baseline suspension. It took him weeks to get me the abs sensors and harnesses. Some parts are still missing so they were ordered new. The next stage will be to get the suspension mounting points boxed, tubes welded and jump up to a full drag suspension front and rear but since I don't want to put a cage in the car and its purpose is street it may stay this way.

I agree that welding the tubes is beneficial, my new 8.8 has them done.
But in reality my old 8.8 tubes were not welded.
I bent the driver side of my axle tube after taking mine to the dragstrip.
I ended up fabbing some bracing to help keep it from doing it again.
Needless to say I had to scrap the old 8.8 and get a new one.

Good luck on your project. I have followed your progress with all the ups and downs and trust me, I COMPLETELY understand how you can get frustrated!

I also have the dilemma of keeping mine 100% street car (no cage) and not crossing the line after I drop the automatic/stall combo in it later.
A cage is definitely needed for safety, but I believe yours will spend more time on the street than the track similar to mine.

No need for the attitude, broski. It was a recommendation, and you can also look at it like an insurance policy. I personally think that your shop is ignorant if they said that it wasn't needed at your level.

That's wasn't attitude.

I would suggest you re-read his post.
