There is no other feeling than riding someone's ass in a 4 cylinder Mustang!
The beater BMW's that some people are recomending here are not exactly the most service friendly cars out on the the road. In fact, I would say that BMW's are terrible to work on.
The mustang on the other hand is a million times better to work on than a BMW and it has the biggest aftermarket support of any car on the road.
There are plenty of used race or heavilly modded mustangs cars to choose from as well for a good price.
I think the mustang will go down in history as one of the best open track cars of all time.
Wow... what kind of weather is it this time of year in fantasy land?
I think he is!? :-DAre you serious?
Mustangs may not be the best car............ but they are good cars. They also have good aftermarket support and parts are affordable (unlike BMW's) and available at every automotive parts store...
They may not be the easiest car to drive but if somebody 'cut their teeth' on the track driving a Mustang fast, I can guarantee you he's a hell of a lot faster than a guy that cut his teeth driving a Corvette! ;-)oke:
Bruce - the model in question is the E30, not something like the E90. While I will agree with you, that most newer BMW parts are more expensive, the E30's are most definitely not. I built my car for just over $4k... something that you cannot do with a mustang. Hell, my replacement engine only cost me $350 and that came with a full exhaust, wiring harness, and ECU:-D
Bruce,
I completely agree with that statement. I feel I am a pretty darn quick Corvette driver because I learned to drive in a Mustang. The transition from the Mustang to the Corvette was a "Holy Cow, this car is EASY to drive fast!" moment for me. Everything I learned in the Cobra allowed me to feel extremely comfortable with the Z06 at, and beyond, the limit.
I'll also echo John's comment in that we are talking about E30s, not newer BMW models. E30s have proven setups for fast lap times, a very large aftermarket, dedicated racing series' and are simple to work on.

That's a great car and a great buy but no matter how much lipstick you put on it, it's still a Corvette! ;-)oke:
50 Gs is still some pretty serious money, but it is also quite a bit less than the price of a BOSS302S and probably faster.
I did. I've been tracking my 03 Cobra for the last year, and got to the point where I don't want to hack it up to make it perform better. This addiction is powerful, let me tell you. I scoured racing junk.com to find a roller and when I found the right one I bought it.
It was the former 2006 NASA SE Champion in AIX. I just need to put a motor in it, when all's said and done it'll be around 600 to the wheels and 2700 pounds. I think it's the way to go, all the hard work is already done (weight reduction, fire system, cage, suspension, brakes, etc.) and I got it for a fraction of the cost to do that. Now, I have a dedicated race car (That I can work on and fix and is lighter weight so it's easier on brakes, tires etc.) can keep my Cobra nice and still embarrass corvettes & porsches on track.
