re: weight, dip the panels or get fibreglass, pull the carpeting out of the trunk and lose the spare... nobody needs sound deadening in the trunk, or carpeting. You've just lost some weight

There's no point in comparing the GT 500 to the new Z06 in any respect. First of all, neither is out.

Second of all, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out a 3100# car with what we'll say 430rwhp rolling on 325's is going to blow out a 3800# car with even a generous 510rwhp rolling on 285's.

Even as proposed:
3100/505(430rwhp)=6.1lb/hp Stock C6 Z06
3800/600(510rwhp)=6.3lb/hp GT 500 + ~ 100hp

Don't even try to argue otherwise. The shit is pure numbers here. It's not something that a brand logo or otherwise will make go faster. There's a reason the new Z06 is jumping up significantly in price over the last model, and will probably be priced at about 1.75 times what the GT 500 will cost.

Math kids. Math.

If I did, it's the nest full of hornets that don't understand the rudimentary laws of physics. :lol1:

All kidding aside, I don't know why anyone would give a ****. Be happy the GT 500 will be faster in a straight line than the C6, stock. Significantly more so when modded. And I think it looks better. The fact that a waaaay more expensive, and accordingly way better performing, uber Vette is way faster should be no surprise...

Can we try some of this math...

First of all... let me say... I think the cars are in two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LEAGUES... BUT...

Try this math... Your SAME 430 RWHP Z-06.... but they weigh 3150 ;) then add 200lbs for the Driver... now were at 3350lb / 430 = 7.79 lb/hp
then do the same... 4000lb/510 = 7.84 lb/hp... now it gets VERY CLOSE... Gearing will play a big part at this... and rumor has it... the Z-06 is getting the Tall Ratio trans.

The next point is... you can take at least 30-50lbs out of the GT500 due to coming w/ a Spare... where the Z-06 does not.

Either way... I have no dog in this fight... I plan to race both, and '07 Z-06 next year and the GT500... in my opinion they BOTH ROCK!

GM overshoots the Z06's weight. As is now, I've seen the "3180lb" C5 Z06 weighed in as low as 3080 wet.

You're also still supposing the GT 500 will be 600 at the crank modded a bit. Chances are it'll be ~450rwhp stock, so I highly doubt you'll see more than 500rwhp without getting into mods some people won't want to get into. That's before you even begin thinking of the fact one car will have a vastly superior weight distribution with substantially wider tires, with more weight on top of them.

I just think people are in for a rude awakening about the realities of straight line performance when both cars are out.

I've still got my deposit on the C6 Z, but I'm leaning towards buying the Shelby right now. I'll buy the opposite color combo of whatever my old man buys...

I agree DBK... it's all just speculation... GM has underated vehicles as well... so... really it's anyone's guess... if Ford attempts to 'stretch' the HP rating to try and get additional bragging rights... then my theory really goes all to hell! :burn:

By the way... my '01 Z-06 (the lightest of all Z's) weighed as little as 3040 wet... w/ Race (lightwieght) wheels, and exhaust.

The new Z will definitely be heavier... due to larger wheels/tires/brakes/7.0 litre & Dry Sump... figure at least 3150 for the '06 Z to be honest... And I would be surprised if you couldn't get the GT500 down to 3650. (Ford typically doesn't use the light stuff for wheels, exhaust, spare etc... )

Either way... both cars will be awesome, in there own way! :coolman:

I for one, am just glad Ford is stepping it up, and getting some DECENT CUBES in these Mustangs!

At its best the GT500 will only corner as good as the last IRS did stock. It doesn't matter how much I spent on parts. My car will still out handle that obese excuse for a Cobra.

You do know that the '05 Mustang GT out handles the last IRS Cobra, right?

It doesn't I have driven both

Well the reviews that I've read don't seem to support your claim. Out of curiousity, how are you able to judge the two? the reviews use test equipment in a controlled and repeatable situation (slalom and skidpad).

Ever run spicewood springs from 620 to where it deadends? My Cobra when stock took those turns at a higher speed before the tires started to give.
