It’s the same reason Laguna seca has noise restrictions because race cars hurt liberals feelings... auto club (at the time California speedway) was so loud I lived 5-6 miles from that track and you could hear the cars from our home... I’m surprised those who live next to the Pomona drag strip haven’t started complaining; sadly it’s a matter of time.

i believe they do. my wife grew up near Pomona. i think they have restrictions on when they can race. of course, the cars that race there are LOOOOOOUD compared to your average street racer lol. the fairgrounds also employs tons of people and brings in $$ to the local businesses as well.

CA did have a real problem with "car enthusiasts"?, creating a pop-up in an intersection, doing donuts in the middle of the intersection, blocking all the thoroughfare in every direction, not to mention spectators occasionally taking a tumble.

What did they call those? A circus, was that it? There was a name for it.

The newspapers called the participants "street racers", I remember thinking "these guys are giving us street racers a bad name"...LOL

E

sideshows. started in the bay area and has now spread to so cal as well. its been happening a LOT where i live. i see people complaining about it online constantly. stopping traffic, tons of noise etc... and usually they call them street racers, when there is no racing involved.

but we also have a big problem with street racing. young, dumb idiots who do it everywhere and end up wrecking and killing people. back when i was young and dumb, they did that in a specific area that was in an industrial area and there was no cross traffic for half a mile and you could easily see if cars were coming.

Don't forget we also have a lot of libs out here that are so far on the left that they think our hobby should be buried permanently and gas should be outlawed.

This plays into forcing tracks to close as they jump at the opportunity to further suppress our hobby. Some of the shit I heard when the people living at mather next to Sac raceway were hammering the track was insane. People genuinely think we are insane for wanting to go fast.

To make things even worse Sacramento had a street racing problem years ago and the cops were cracking down hard on it. This somehow helped the case of the homeowners by Sac raceway. CHP was also hanging out at the entrance/exit of the track with a flatbed during major events.

I saw this with my own two eyes coming out of either mustang madness or a Ford vs Chevy even (can't remember which). Officers were pointing at cars and telling them to pull over as they left. From what I was told they were giving out citations for everything they could. Car to low, loud exhaust, no cats you name it.

So not only were guys getting hammered on the street but also just trying to run their cars legally. Basically for a while it was all out war.

I thought this was the peak of the onslaught but CHP found a way to step it up more. I was told they started doing the exact same thing to the autocross guys on the other side of that same housing development. What's kind of ****ed up about it is those events were held in the same place where all LEO'S go in that area to do their drivers training. The autocross club had to schedule events around when law enforcement was conducting training.

So let's think about the pure insanity here. People are up in arms over illegal street racing then law enforcement starts hammering guys at the track who are racing legally. In who's ****ing mind does this make sense? No place to run no place to hide.

Lastly I am not condoning street racing but simply pointing out that racing legally was also in a way targeted and in doing so could not possibly help the illegal racing situation.

Agreed. I hate the massive amount of negative attention it brings to the car hobby in general. Here in California people love to jump on the hate band wagon and this sure gives them one.
Way off topic, but I swear that "Bible Thumper" mentality never goes away. Even in our modern post-religious world, people just cling to new dogmas and taboos to run around and beat people with.

Religion was never the problem, human nature to want to control and stick their fingers in people's eyes is the problem.

Makes sense if you don't want it in any way, shape or form. Very similar to CA's stance on firearms as well. Legal or illegal doesn't matter. It's undesirable.

Sad to see the birthplace of hot rod culture turn into such a hostile shithole.

They call them takeover meets down here, they’ll find some random parking lot to show up and do that shit. They just did a whole news segment on this but because these idiots also race each other it’s all just lumped into street racing
