Opening a can of worms here just curious on parents thoughts on this. I’m very excited for tonight to see Logan, heard it’s a great film! Anyways, this also seems to bother a ton of people that I do agree on some of their points but some IMO are a bit absurd.

Movie is making headlines on being too gruesome and bloody for kids/children and insist on not taking them to the movie. But that’s where my question comes in, where does the age draw the line?

I’ll say it, my 10 year old daughter is excited to see it and yes I’m taking her. I probably will get crap for it but eh, I was a tad younger than her when I was introduced to comic book’s, R rated films, etc. For me, it isn’t much about the age but the mentality. Flame suit on but I wanna say that I grew pretty well even after being introduced to this crap at an early age.

Depends on the movie. I wouldn't let my kids watch Boogie Nights, but might be OK with them watching Saving Private Ryan.

All depends on the content.

Depends on the movie. Logan I'd say its ok. If its a movie like sausage party, then no.

I watched Terminator and Aliens when i was a youngster. Scared shitless from aliens, memorized Terminator 2 line for line. Absolutely knew they were all fake and not real life.

^^^ Bingo Again! A child's ability to discern fiction from reality plays a big role IMO.

I'll add that the parent should also reinforce the fact that the child going to an 'R' rated movie with said parent (or approved adult guardian) doesn't give them the green light to see any 'R' rated movie. Parental approval should be a must. Not a bad idea that the parents of your child's friends understand your rules. Their values and rules might be totally different than yours. "Gee daddy, I thought it would be okay to switch to an 'R' movie at the theater since Paige's dad said it was okay. Paige does it all the time". LOL.

I agree that content is a key factor as well.

It's hard to think of some of those older action movies as rated-R now. I saw all of them as a kid too. Also had the action figures based on the movie. I still want that Queen Alien Hive Playset. :)

R movies nowadays are REALLY hardcore. I mean, compared to the 70-90s. I wouldn't let a kid watch it unless they are 17 or older. They don't need to see blood and sex, lol.

Debatable. Gory, for the most part yes, violent? Pretty much the same. I would say PG-13 Movies from back then were more violent than today’s movie’s. Hell even Star Wars had a dude’s arm chopped off with blood on the floor.

In today’s time, $10 says a 10 year old see's more blood and sex thru youtube than you did in your time with or without your consent.

Shouldn't be too bad. I think that kids shouldn't see R-rated movies in theaters since 9/10 they talk, fidget, ask questions, etc. If it's a kids movie, it's expected to hear them talk, laugh, make noises, etc.

Wife and I pretty much stopped going to the theater altogether since the one we liked near us now is infested with children under 15 that go to all types of movies and are very disrespectful in the crowd. Some adults are, but, kids don't have the mindset at young ages to be courteous unless their parents are extremely strict. I tend to think of a movie theater as a library, maybe at my old age of 32, I'm really old fashioned.

At age 10, I was semi-restricted to watching movies with sex, heavy violence, etc. But, I was able to watch certain movies, like Halloween, lethal weapons, etc. In today's society, I'm not surprised if kids are watching porn by age 10 since most parents are very liberal and easy going with their children (general statement)

They will always find a way. Whether its at their house or a friends house or even at school. I was able to get on some naughty sites back in middle and high school.

I realize this. My point is, why fuel the flame, and take them to the movies to see R films? You are just teaching them it's ok.

There's zero criteria or guidelines to how a movie is rated. The people who do it just pick which rating they think it should have.

It's like video games or regular tv. It goes child by child what each parent thinks.

This is pretty much what I can agree to about kids into “adult” films. But to me, this statement goes to any person that does or says something to distract a viewer. I dont mind the ineviteble clapping or cheering, they get excited, whatever. But constant chattering or phone usage is a no on my book.

I switched theaters for that reason as well, apart from being crowded. I do visit my local theater though only for big films like Logan to watch in AMC Dolby Cinema. Its a bit steep in price ($22 ea) so best believe those people wont be there and thats just the icing on the cake. IMO its the best way to see a movie in Dolby Cinema.

But that’s out of a parent’s reach. Like what @Mpoitrast87 said, teens will always find a way. I sure as hell did, back in the old 24k modem lol I remember how awesome 56k was, seeing those playboy pics load quicker ahahah
Point is to me, its better to let them know whats wrong and right and make them feel conformable around you. There’s a fine line between fake and real and I make sure my kids know what it is.
