TVR is hard at working bringing its revival to fruition. And so is Cosworth. That the venerable racing engine constructor is at the heart of the British sports car manufacturer's rebirth, we already knew, but now we have additional details about the engines Cosworth is building for TVR.

According to Autocar, the new generation of TVR sports cars will be powered by a modified version of the Coyote modular V8 engine from the Ford Mustang. Testing of the Cosworth-tuned Ford crate engine has commenced, and is apparently already exceeding expectations. In fact Autocar reports that, while undertaking a simulated lap of the Circuit de la Sarthe on which the 24 Hours of Le Mans is held, the initial engine prototypes exceeded the capacity of Cosworth's dynamometers - or at least its initial settings. Either way, that bodes well.

The Coyote mills are being built in the same facility and by the same technicians that have made so many of Cosworth's F1 and IndyCar engines. Power outputs have yet to be revealed, but are expected to range from 450 to over 500 horsepower, depending on the specific application. TVR plans on building versions for the street, for track days, for TVR's spec racing series, and even for Le Mans.

The endurance racing version is reportedly slated to be unveiled at Le Mans in 2017 before competing in the race the following year, all using modified Mustang motivation. That strikes us as an ambitious timetable, but the prospect of a Mustang-powered, Cosworth-tuned British sports car, designed by Gordon Murray and competing at Le Mans, is enough to pique our interest and then some. So you can bet we'll be monitoring the company's progress.

This sounds awesome.

Sounds promising. I've been pulling for TVR for some time now and have always been a huge fan of Cosworth. Their work is just incredible!

A lot Ford fan smiles erupted after hearing this news. Cosworth is renowned, and hearing Cosworth and Ford in the same sentence is really great news. I'm looking forward to updates as the project unfolds.
