I'm typically not one to toot my own horn, in fact it usually makes me very uncomfortable.
I wanted to share this though, as I am incredibly proud and grateful for the opportunity to be listed among some of the industries top talent across the country.
In March I received an email from Automotive News stating that I had been anonymously nominated for their 40 Under 40 list and that if I wanted to be considered, to fill out a long questionnaire by May 10th and I might get thrown on the list.
I immediately deleted the email knowing that a guy from a smaller store in the middle of the country wouldn't have a shot. About a week later I received a call from a journalist with Automotive News and he was wanting to write an opinion piece using my views of the pre-owned vehicle market. After spending a few hours off and on with him, I started to realize that maybe I had a shot.
I went back through my trash folder, found the email, and responded to the questionnaire. I submitted it on March 27th, still over a month out from it ending and I was respondent 4,987. At that point, I forgot all about it, and didn't give it any more thought.
On May 18th, I received the email. Subject line: Congratulations! You're an Automotive News 40 Under 40. I was shocked and still in disbelief. The article was released today, I still feel the same way.
I still feel very undeserving of the award, but thankful at the same time. Since May 18th, I've had a hand in three other articles in the periodical and am starting on another one this week.
