I replaced all my timing components and I need some input from the pro's on setting initial timing.

I know the crank sits at 6:00, the PS head sits at about 11:00 , and the D'S head sits around 12:00.

My question is this. Do you really need to use the crank hold and cam hold tools to do it right?

My next question is about chain slop. The PS is tensioner counter clockwise but the DS is tensioner clockwise. Where should the slop be on the DS? Top or bottom of the crank gear?

Thanks in advance

You don't have to have those tools. The cams will naturally want to stay in a specific position and you can turn the crank to the correct position to match where the cams are. If you do move the crank to match the cams position you have to make sure when you turn the crank's timing mark back to the 6'o clock position that all both banks timing marks are correct or else you can possibly time one bank 180* out.

To answer your second question your loose chain will be on the side with the tensioner. Do one side at a time.
