The project looks like it is coming along great. It will be a fun car when you get it finished. Good luck with it.

I'm waiting to see how your 500's fit. Mine are ok, but I sure wish they made a 17x8 or 18x8 FR500. That would fit perfect IMO.

I'm more concerned about the rear than the front. I'm running the same setup
(up front) as my other car, which looked really good. With the cobra rear end being not as wide makes me a little worried about the rear. These wheels and tires are leftover from my other car, so if I don't like them I might look for 18's instead of 17's.

@the OP, your car is looking like it is coming along nicely. I can't wait to see more of the project! Keep up the great work

@some of the others with questions about the wheels:

The rear of the cobra is the exact same as any other Ford 8.8". The axle length is what changes.

When you swap to a 5 lug setup you will no longer have Fox Cobra length axles, you'll either have Fox-length (from ranger or aerostar), or SN95 length. Typically the Moser axles come in either Fox Length or SN95 length, but I would think someone out there makes custom length axles if you wanted to go that route. SN95 axles are I 'think' 0.75" longer or somewhere around there, and the Fox length axles are just a little shorter than Fox Cobra axles (I'm sure you can look up the specifics).

I specifically went with the 18x9/18x10 FR500 combo because the 10" wheel had the perfect offset to sit flush with fox length axles using no spacer. I felt the 17x10.5" offset placed the wheel a little too far outwards (most people I've seen run a 1/4" spacer because the inside of the 10.5" wheel would rub), and as a result you can look at the car and immediately tell they are aftermarket oversized wheels/tires. I prefer the more tucked in appearance of the 18x10, but others love the steam-roller look of the 17x10.5.

Rear of my LX with 18x10 (same setup, I just swapped it to my cobra when I bought it). This picture shows how it fits with the fender.

I hope this helps clear up any questions, and I'm more than happy to provide more info on the swap.

Thanks Joeracer

You are right about the 18's fitment. What size tire are you running for the rear 275 or 285 and 245 up front? Moser actually made me some cobra length axles drilled for 5 lug.

iirc they are 285 rear (but Sumitomo, so they run a little on the narrow side ... and are just crap tires in general, never buying again!), and 245 in the front.

With the Cobra length axles you may not need the 1/4" spacers to fit the 17x10.5".

I just wanted to comment on the axle/ wheel posts above.

The 93 Cobra axles are the same length as the SN95's. They're 3/4" longer than a regular Fox axle. The 10.5" FR500 rim is going to stick out of the wheel well about 1/2" and thats the rim not including the tire. I would change your Moser order to regular Fox axles.

One question...Wouldn't I need change the caliper brackets to work with the shorter axles.
