T56 HP & Torq Specifications?

I have a friend who is rebuilding a 1969 mach1 and is putting a 351 punched out to 408 putting 500 hp and 545 torq to the wheels. He claims the T56 will not handle this since the transmission is a light duty. Can anyone tell me what is the max hp the t56 will handle and where I can verify online to prove to him that it will tke that HP & Torq.

i don't think you can consider it a light duty trans lol

i have read the torque specs on the trans, i think it was at the tremec corporation website

edit: well shut my mouth, they do call it a light duty trans, but i would think they are comparing it to truck transmissions, anyway here is a link http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/products/T-56.asp

I guess what concerns me is that the terminators running 600-700 HP are they using the T56 or have they changed to something different. From the Tremic website it looks like 475 may be the top torq it can handle. I was trying to defend the T56 as a viable solution and he pointed to the specifications that it would not handle the HP and I said it would.

the t56 in the cobras in weaker than in vettes, f bods, vipers, etc.

thanks to ford putting in the 10 spline input shaft
put the 26 spline input shaft in like they have on all the other cars and it shud be able to handle that much power

oh right i do

and lots of other people too

toploader 10-spline input shaft can take 700 lb ft from a 427 punched out to 454, so why not ask ttc why their input shaft cant?
