This upcoming weekend is the largest dyno day of the season here in Indy. I had a customer ask if I could whip his car into shape for the dyno day. He just did a 2.9 whipple and want's it to look its best for the crowd. The Paint on the car is in bad shape. Just general washing over 10 years has left its marks. It has scuffs and hard water spots through out. In the next few days I'll be posting up pictures of the progress. I am using a flex 3401 buffer with megs M101/M205 then poorboys exp followed by collinte 845.

If you was just getting into doing paint correction is there a basic kit/list of things to buy to learn on? I'm very intrigued by paint correction and want to get into it.

Its gonna be a full correction. You have to clay the car before you can start to correct the paint. Clay really should'nt mar the paint persay unless you using heavy grit clay which you have to order to get. A car part store only sells the finer grades. Are you using enough detail spray when doing it? The bar should never stick if it does you need more spray. I'll have more pics today.

Looks great man. I clayed my cobra the other day to just get smooth the paint out. I havnt done it in a long time. Now when I get ready to correct the paint ill wash and go back over anything with clay that needs it again. Im using a GG, 105/205 though I want some 101. And prog some M26 and 845.

You don't have to compound/polish after clay but make sure you seal the paint after being that your leaving your paint in its rawest form after claying/IPA. The clay acts an abrasive and strips everything off the paints surface including previous wax/sealants.

You may already know this but didn't mention it in your post so I wanted to make it clear to others on the forum.

What's a fair price to pay to have this done? I always wanted to get my old S4 paint corrected but never pulled the trigger before I sold it. Now I'm thinking I may want to do it to my truck. Its 16 years old but the paint still shines great, just sucks that there are so many swirl marks from cheap automatic car washes.

Anything special in the wash??
Nice work...I'll be watching! :)

It's a dawn dish soap wash. It removes any wax onthe paint and trim. There are specially made soaps for it but i've used dawn without any trouble. What you see is dwan in the foam gun. This will coat the car with a nice layer of soapy foam which helps raise the gunk up off the paint before I went over it with a wash mit. For the dawn rinse it might be over kill but in a normal wash it is a must to keep swirls away.

What foam gun is that? Looking for a good one can't seem to find it! Thanms

It's an autogeek.net one work really well.

This is a friends car, but if I did someone off the street i'd charge no less than $500. This is a ton of work, people hear that price and think your crazy but this is hours and hours of labor. People just think its a clay wax and your done. It's just not that way.

That actually sounds fairly reasonable to me. I know how much work and patience it requires which is why I've never attempted it myself.
