Spec Clutch??

I need to upgrade my stock clutch.

I'm looking for a good clutch with minimum pedal effort.

I've been told that Spec II and Spec III are great! What is the difference between those two?

But I've read that the problem with Spec clutch is the chatter.

Which brand one do you recommend?

Another question, if I decide to go with the Spec, should I buy a new OEM throw-out bearing instead of using the Spec. Which one is better/durable?

Thanks!

someone may call me out on this, but I believe spec offers a Stage II + which is between II and III. Hook of a III with a II's pedal effort.

I may be wrong though.

So the Spec II requires less pedal effort than the Spec III??

What about the TOB? Is it good?

I don't want to put a TOB that will be noisy in a couple of months!

A throw out bearing is a throw out bearing. I just installed a Dual Friction in my buddy's GT and the pedal effort was not hard at all. Definately easier than my cobra with the Ram clutch and when I had the factory clutch.

Go with the Ford TOB. My SPEC one was very loose when I pulled it out of the box.

My Ford one was very tight.

Ive run the same SPEC TOB since 2003

it makes no noise when adjusted properly and held back with LDC spring

cleaned & regreased it last year when I pulled trans for LDC cooling mod and it looked fine....bearings were in good shape

I actually like the plastic shell because it's friendly to the guide tube (mine shows no wear)

I believe the Centerforce and OEM Ford throw out bearings are the same part. There's even a chance the Spec TOB is part of this family.

it has less clamping force, so I would think it would

SPEC3 is pretty easy too...

JB, do you think the Spec 2 and Spec 3 families have different pressure plates?

1 & 2 are the same I think, but 2+, 3 and 3+ are all unique (dunno about 4 & 5)

bummed me out when I called SPEC recently about putting a 3+ disc in my 3 and they said I couldn't

you probably remember back in the early days (before there were so many other clutches available), one of the hot setups was a special-order Stage3 PP and STAGE2 disc

that gave great streetabilty with high clamping force

Good info.....Yeah, I guess they're especially using different spring rates for the puck vs. total circle discs. Kinda surprised to see the 2+ and 3+ have different PP's. The 2+ looks like a slightly scaled down (Eaton?) version of the 3+ (twin screw?). At least from a disc compostion factor.

yeah, I know....the metal is shiny in spots but it still looks the same as it did when I pulled almost-new trans in 03

like I said, my SPEC bearing holder is plastic rather then metal so I think that has a lot to do with it

Man I couldn't put mine in. It just had a lot of slop in it. Even my tranny guy said something about it.

Ive' had a Spec 3, Centerforce DFX and the Ram

The ram was buy far the best. Easy pedal...not too grabby and can take a beating.

Te spec was grabby and clattered.

slop within bearing or slop between the bearing & retainer?

The bearing itself. Looked like it was leftover from a world record gang-bang attempt.

I shipped it back to SPEC and they sent out another right away but that took 3 days and I needed the car back before that. The new one is fine.

twin disc setup is the way to go if you can afford it

there's a few available and I see SPEC just announced they have one for our cars
