do you just unscrew the boss knob and screw the new one on or did you have to put on a new boot retainer?

My knob is not the stock thread pitch because I have an MGW. But you can get them for the stock pitch from EPCO. You would still just unscrew it and put it on. The Boss knob is on there pretty good, you'll probably need a strap wrench to get it off.

Just wanted to chime back in on the adapters... Below is a pic of all the adapters, but mostly just to compare the two 401a adapters:

From left to right: (Speed Dawg) Normal boot adapter, (Ebay) 401a boot adapter, (Speed Dawg) 401a boot adapter

I am currently using the Ebay one, as I like how it looks over the other one. Both seem to be made out of the same material. So those looking for a 401a adapter, the Ebay one seems to be a decent (and little cheaper) alternative... :)

Quick question man...

So I have a 2012 GT500 alcantara boot with my stock Boss knob. Is it normal for the boot to look like this? It seems like there is too much boot and since it's soo narrow up top all it can do is fold into itself. I have the suede e-brake boot and shift boot to match the rest of my interior but I hate looking at the foreskin of a boot I have there. Is there anything parts I can get to cover it up or is there an alcantara boot w/normal boot adapter?

This is what is causing the suede boot to overlap itself. Is that rubber boot used for anything?

If you compare it to the pic of the gt500 boot here: 2010-2012 Mustang GT500 Alcantra Shift Boot it looks like maybe the boss shifter comes down farther than the gt500 shifter does maybe?

The only thing I know is that the GT500 has a bigger or smaller screw so you cant use GT/Boss knobs on them. I'm unaware of any depth difference though. Im hoping someone makes an alcantara boot with the normal or 401a boot fitting. I really like the bezel that's embedded on the boot

Found a solution. This website makes shift boots, e-brake boots and more all to your liking. I played around on some options and could order a charcoal alcantara boot but the size and shape of the regular GT's boot. That way it could be mated with speeddawg's normal boot adapter and any knob of my choice. Check it out guys, its pretty neat but can be pricey depending on the extra options you get...

Yeah, I plan on ordering one at some point, I had one of them in my '05 and it was very nice! I have samples sitting on my work bench, I just have to figure out what combo I want...

And I am not sure on the gt500 (or the boss, for that matter), but I know on the shifter I had with the 401a package, the shifter has the adapter built into it, so it's not just a knob, but a knob plus adapter.

How do I tell which know will fit? Stupid question I know but reading this I see some say certain ones won't work. I have a 14 gt premium that I just put a Barton shifter on and want to lose the dick shaped knob

I used the stock boot with the MGW hardware. I removed the plastic cup and used stainless safety wire on the backside to cinch the excess material up.
