nah, that's Alka-Seltzer that causes them to die.. gas builds up in their stomach, and since they don't belch, it ruptures their internal organs.
That is funny, but kids today are stupid and post videos of their pranks so they get caught. When I was young we never got caught because there was no evidence.

I hate seagulls. They would always steal our bait when we were fishing off the end of the Santa Monica Pier.
But I found a way to train them to leave the bait alone. I would fill up the anchovies with Tabasco sauce. The gulls would grab it, fly a few feet and drop it. the next gull would pick it up and so on.
After 30 minutes they wouldn't touch another anchovy and we could fish without being bothered.
