I searched and didn't see a thread like this so forgive me if there is.

Anyway, my wife and I are firm believers in rescuing pets from the pound. Got this little guy (his name is Jack) about 6 years ago and he's been the best dog I've ever had, he was really close to getting put down because he was abused by kids at his previous home and didn't like them... well, he does now, he was just frustrated because no one loved him in my opinion, I gave him the chance and he is just awesome. Not exactly sure what kind he is, mix of jack russell and chihuahua I'd guess.

My wife's dog (also a rescue) he's a pomaranian poodle mix and is an awesome dog as well, his name is Diesel because even when tired he keeps on trucking.

Last but not least, we just got this guy (was totally spontaneous) from the pound, he reminded me so much of Jack that I had to save him too, even though it's kind of crazy with 3 little dogs running around  his name is Dozer because he pushes the dirt around, very cool little guy as well. He looks and acts so much like Jack that I'm starting to think Jack could be his grandfather (Jack immediately took a liking to him also).

Feel free to post up your rescues, whatever kind of pet they may be. Please try to remember if you're looking for a pet to check your local shelters first, these guys just need someone to love them. Thanks for looking.

here are my two little buddies. got them both from the street. the orange one was a few months old and the gray one was around 4 weeks old.

orange one is kuko and gray one is smoky. awesome pets and they love each other which surprised me because the orange one has always been alone and was a few years old when i got the little one. they are both males.

Great post:rockon: I have personally rescued some. Two kittens that were stuck in a wall in my shop. Heard only one, but when I went looking, found another almost dead. Got them both out , must have been stuck for days, could feel all their bones and barely made a sound. If it wasn't for the one loud kitten crying, would have never found them both. Could barely walk and then after a couple days of milk started to gain strength. Sadly they are both gone , but were awesome pets and lived a good 6 years. One left behind some "grandchildren" that I still have.

I got a Chihuahua from the human society that was thrown away because he was a diabetic-had him 8 yrs now. CICI a bull terrior pit bull mix for 7 yrs and my love of my life Isabella I saved from a puppy mill in Tenn they were going to have her put down she was 7 wks all kinds of lung distemper. Told the guy I will take the dog and take her to the vet and give her a fighting chance. He said I would have to pay him, after an exchange of words and threats I left with the dog and 2yrs 4 mnths later she is the most awesome dog. Will try to post photos later

Picture of our cattle dog mix we rescued. He's super smart and friendly. Picture from our old, small back yard.

Rescue pets FTW!

Please also make sure you get your pets from a "no kill" shelter.

I have been rescuing feral cats. The full grown ones I catch them, get them spayed or neutered, and them bring them back home and let them go in my backyard. They get fed twice a day and it's their decision to stay or go. Most have stayed.
I just lost two of them in the past couple of months. The oldest female, a 19 year old named 'mama cat" died of old age. One of her daughters that was kept as a house cat died of cancer at 15.
I still have three outdoor only, one in and out, and two full time indoor cats. All were caught in my yards either as young adults or kittens.

I started doing the cat rescue thing after my last pit bull died of old age. As soon as she was gone the cats started showing up.

I would say the opposite as those are the dogs who need saving the most.

Either way, rescue dogs are the best dogs to own.

I look at it more from a funding perspective.

I don't want to give a penny to a shelter that kills pets. I'd prefer to give my money to shelters that spend it on taking care of their pets, instead.

Got Mookie just over 2 weeks ago from the SPCA shelter here. Dallas is a no-kill city and they said they find adopters pretty much weekly for most pets. Mookie is just at 8 months old and he is awesome. Hasn't had a single accident in the house and learns really quickly. He has some ups and downs going into his crate and he's deathly afraid of bridges and bathrooms but he's awesome. He's my wife's and my first dog together.

She lived in a dumpster and there were some kids being mean to her. A man was nice enough to get her and take her to the animal hospital to be checked out. We picked her up shortly after.

Her name is Eleanor.

Everyone that has posted to this so far has to be one of the best people on earth.

My wife as well devotes time to the Schnauzer Love Rescue and helps place these dogs to loving families... Sadly we just had to put down our Schnauzer that we adopted a few years ago due to health reasons, but I am hoping to adoption another dog soon and give another pup/dog a chance at life.

The stories in this thread are wonderful! I think it's great that you all adopted your pets from shelters. Great, because we all know that too many animals are put down because homes could not be found for them. And this thread shows how wonderful they can be after being adopted. Wonderful when abused animals find a new life in a loving home.

Found Zeek on the street. Took him in...he was hungry and needed some medical attention.
Now, he's at 100% and I have to say one of the most obedient dogs I've ever owned.

Not sure what breed of dog he is.
