The position that I applied for is a Security Specialist in Alice Springs, Australia. I am hoping that I get it but, just want to make sure that its not one of those types of companies that makes there employees market business.

We used to have a ratheon here in Waco. It's now called L3. Good place to work for. My brother went to work for them working on helicopters after he got out of the navy. Good luck.

Raytheon is a decent company, but they tend to pay on the low side of the salary scale. When I was in the Air Force our contractor support was Raytheon and I have worked as a subcontractor for them also. Just my 2 cents. When were you at Alice?

Ok well, where to start. I went to Australia back in March for vacation. I told myself, its been years since I went on vacation, I want to go to some far off location where nobody knows me and be an entirely different person. So I was there for about 20 some odd days, in the beautiful city of Sydney. When I first got there, my limo driver told me all these places to go party and whatnot and he said that this one paticular place was having some huge hip hop/rnb party. I was like "what do aussies know about that kinda music?" lol, so I after I checked into my hotel room and crashed out for awhile, I went out that night to a quiet little irish pub around the corner. Then these 4 GORGEOUS women walked in and I overheard them talking about the same party that my limo driver was telling me about. Now, under normal circumstances, I wouldn't have had the balls to go say anything to them, but I was like "I am on vacation, and its time to let loose." So I introduced myself to them and the whole time they were laughing at my accent. (which I thought was weird b/c they got the accent, not me, lol)
Anyway, we exchanged pleasentries, I told them I was wanting to go out that night and they told me about that club. Later that evening I went and they all were there including the one that I am seeing now Tara whom I did not meet earlier that day. We talked, danced, laughed and had a great time together that evening. I told her how I was only there for vacation and that I wanted to see more of her. Needless to say, we spent the rest of my time there getting to know each other, hanging out, and she showed me around the city. Now, I wasn't there looking for anyone, I was just going to do my own thing, hell trying to start a relationship with some chick was the last thing on my mind BUT - this woman was too good to be true. ITs just amazing how we instantly clicked. When it was time for me to go, I asked her to come here for vacation...and she did. Now everything else that happend its kinda personal but I really like this girl.....well lets be honest, I am in love with her. I mean, I never once cared for a woman like I do her. I have had my share of flings, dates, relations etc and not once did I feel anything deep for them. I guess I was just in it for one thing, but not Tara, this one I want to keep. But before she left the states, we talked about the future. And it would be quite difficult to pursue a relationship of this type of distance.....lets face it, it would be next to impossible. We talked about the possibility of her moving here but, at this point it wouldn't work b/c of outside issues.
BUT THEN long and behold, I was doing some job searches for australia. Something that matched my background as a DOD Security/Intelligence Specialist along with my security clearance. Then I saw it - Industrial Security Specialist - Location: Alice Springs, AU.
Now - I thought to myself that this must be a gift from God. That there was a job available there that matched my background, and would put me closer to Tara. I can only hope and pray that they call me for an interview, but at the sametime, hope that its not one of those "nightmare" type companies.
But bottomline - I want to be with her, theres a chance for me to move there and try to build a committed relationship with her. I don't even care if I have to take a paycut, which I probaly will have to. But money is not everything.
Anyway...now you all know. I am off the soapbax........ :burnout:

Tony, nice story man! You do realize that Alice Springs is out in the middle of nowhere, right? My buddy here was in the Navy stationed in Japan and has an austrailian wife. If you'd like to get up with him sometime and ask some questions just let me know. Good luck

awesome story Tony. I guess she was just here for vacation when you came over right? Congrats to you for finding someone you want to start a commitment with and really take it to the next level. We wanted to go to sydney for our honeymoon, but it was just too expensive. I have heard it is amazing there.

good luck with everything and if it is meant to be, it will happen. Keep us posted.

My main concern is what happens to your cobra??? All kidding aside - sounds like you've meant someone that's "knocked your socks off"...that's great! I wish you much happiness....

P.S. What is going to happen with the Cobra? Will it be headed to australia with you?

Marlon - yes I do realize Alice Springs is in the middle of nowhere, but I'd rather be in the same country as her where I am only a 2 hr plane ride away.

Jason - you're right, going to sydney from the east coast (ie Md,VA) is fuggin expensive! when I went I spent about $8k. but no, she came here after I left sydney for her vacation as well as to see me.
but will definately keep you posted on whether or not I get that job

Antex - I would love to take my cobra with me. and if there is a way to do that then I will, but my main concern is what kinda octane fuel they use.
But if I can't take my cobra with me, I would like to sell it to a MACA member perhaps.
