As I understand it, it was a submersible and not a submarine. I guess that means it can't maneuver? I would assume it has to be tethered. Of course, if it was tethered, they'd just pull it up, right?

Had it been tethered it would have had a system to drop weights to return to the surface like our MNV did on our ships at power loss. Def not tethered and tethering for power at that depth would have been a nightmare to accomplish.
