I know I know Ford forum but hey I know a lot of you are car/truck guys and mechanics. I have a dilemma, I may be looking to get into a truck and believe me all I want is an F-150 but the new F-150's and the dealers are trying to rape me on price. I do like the Tundras but way too expensive and I'd stick my thumb up my ass before I drove a Chevy!

So my question is what do you guys think/know/experienced with the Ram 1500? Local dealer has a killer deal on them? Anyways sorry for the non Ford post but maybe you guys can help. Appreciate it in advance.

I wouldn't settle... It's F150 or nothing.

Seriously

Settling leads to "unhappy with product" more times than not.

It has nothing to do with the RAM per say, it's just that it isn't
your 1st choice and it WILL haunt you...

I have a feeling that would be exactly what happens! I'm in no rush so definitely going to keep looking but yeah if you want anything other then the base V6 with cd here in Sacramento you're already looking at 30 plus!

I love my 2011 Silverado. Don't have many complaints about it. D.O.D. is awesome. I'm getting 17+ mpg average on 87 octane. Your only option left on the table is a dodge. You don't like GM, can't afford a Toyota or F150, so go get your dodge then! Only option available.

I'd shove a whole foot up my ass before buying a Toyota. Chevy or Ford. Chevy/GMC is a great truck. First choice would be the F-150

I've got an 07 hemi and its been a great truck so far. It's comfortable, has plenty of power, and the quad cab actually has pretty good room in the back. I bought the truck more or less because of the deal I got through my buddies uncle, but after owning the truck I wouldn't hesitate to look at a dodge again. In reality they all make pretty damn good trucks.

I had a 06 Hemi short bed single cab and it was a great truck when i liked in Alaska. It saw temps down to -61 and it had no problems. Wife had a 2009 chevy 1500 and it didnt like the cold to much dry starts, low cranking, wouldn't go into gear. both were set up with block heaters, battery heaters, trans heaters. Only reason I sold it was because i moved to TN. no need for a truck.

the only issues I'm having with mine besides wear and tear is a few transmission issues and abs issues.

But as much as I beat mine I really can't complain. The Interior on the newer trucks is amazing.

Ive heard how bad they can be and other die hard friends of mine have them and love them but then again they swing off of dodge's nuts with every vehicle they purchase. I like my 06 sierra. 150,000 miles and still going really good. No big problems yet. I wish I would have scooped up the 05 F150 lariat 4 door I was looking at though. That thing was nice

Ram has really improved over the years, but they still have a crappy tranny. IMO there is no option other than an F-150 in the 1/2 ton market.

545 is a pretty good tranny except for 2nd prime. Stupid kick down gear is the death of it.

Their new one is supposed to be much better.

I had a 2010 Ram for a year and a half before I decided I wanted back in a sports car. It was a fantastic truck and I had no real issues with it, other than the crappy resale. However, bad resale isn't a bad thing if you're the one buying it - I'd try to get one that's about a year old, so it already took that hit.

Thanks for all the replies everyone I'm definitely going to continue the search I'm definitely a Ford guy so if it comes down to it I can save and get that but definitely wanted to know what people think of the Rams, also surprised to see that many people push the Chevy stuff but hey I guess if it gets the job done that's what's most important!
