The reason I suspect it's broken is because even when the bastard got me and turned around to pull me over, I got nothing, and THEN when he was behind me writting my just rewards, I plugged it in for fun and it wasn't going off?

Laser doesn't work that way. You won't get a hit unless the officer is actively targeting you with the laser gun from a stationary position. Typically, they will be standing out of their car shooting people from the side of the road.

How old is your V1? You need to keep it updated so it's detecting what law enforcement is currently using. If you don't you can get hit by certain radar detectors as well as lasars.

Go to their website, type in your VIN from your unit and it will tell you if it's out of date.

My 7yr old V1 picks up Laser just fine. It does have issues with K/Ka, but X and Laser work great.

My V1 picks up laser, although I already know where the cops hide (on top of overpasses and entrance ramps; in depressed median areas; in side streets; behind billboards, shrubs and bridge abutments; and around blind corners). Defensive driving + V1 = no tickets.

You can see when cops shoot laser. There are no in-car laser setups. They have to be outside the car shooting with a handheld device, so you can easily tell whether or not they're shooting laser.

That's not entirely true, they have car mounted ones but they have to be stationary for them to work.

x band is very rare. btw, i don't know this for certain, but i would say that ka band is the most popular one, currently. i know they love that band around here.

X band may be very rare where you are, but it is still extremely common in this area. Most of the agencies I encounter are still running it. I'm just now starting to see some of them transition to K/Ka and especially Laser.

Poor county sheriff departments aren't going to spend the money to upgrade equipment when the old stuff still works unless they get grants, etc. Thankfully, those are the areas I typically drive through. When laser becomes more prevalent, it'll be time to get a K40.

I have a cobra XR radar/laser detector and it picks up laser. laser beams do scatter and bounce off of other vehivles and objects and it will go off before your hit. It works best if there is traffic ahead of you , so on a lone open road with no traffic I'm more cautious. Also if they are doing just a pop laser/ radar you can be hit before you know it. I had a motorcycle cop with a hand held unit beside a tree pointing and shooting people as they go by. That is really hard to beat. Also I have a heavy tint on the rear window and they can come up behind me. I use it all the time in all my cars to get use to the alerts even the false ones even when I'm driving the speed limit.

I just drive the speed limit. No need to worry about radar detectors, lazers, intergalactic ninja's or anything like that.

And if you mean CB so I can talk to truckers or other hillbillies that might just so happen to have a CB radio in thier car....there's so many reasons why that won't work I shouldn't have to explain.... :bored:

And if you knew how many times my ass was saved by a person spreading the word about a bear you'd know my $180 investment was well worth it.

Works even better if you are lost, trying to get around traffic, ect ect.

But hey if you want to spend $400+ on a device that only lets you know you are about to get a ticket rather than a device that will prevent you from getting one, be my guest.

I also have a escort 8500/X50 and it works great against K/Ka and laser. Turned the X function off because the cop's around here don't use it anymore. i have a friend who bought a K40 and it was junk IMO. Maybe it wasnt installed correctly or IMO he did'nt know how to use it? He got 3 tickets in 5 months after purchase. Go figure after 2 grand.
