Picked up an S197

Took the car out for a spin tonight (literally). Actually feels more squirrelly but it was only 50 degrees out. Was toying with a Camaro and was spinning off and on in third and even a little bit still shifting to fourth.

Had to adjust the exhaust a little, was touching the new panhard brace.

One thing I noticed is the front door speakers don't have any treble.

Is this by design, are there some tweeters somewhere that maybe aren't hooked up? Or did the previous owner maybe install some crossovers?

Factory radio. Rear speakers are aftermarket 6x9's. Believe this is a shaker 500 system without the trunk sub.

Pulled the plugs to take a look, running fine but general maintenance. All were dry, they all looked okay (if not a little toasty) but they were orange from octane booster.

Coils all look good too. Really need to spray down the engine bay when we get some warmer weather.
Plugs actually don't look that orange. I bet the previous owner was only bumping the octane a few points. Plugs get nasty quick when you start dumping full can of it in the tank trying to make 100+ octane.

Yea looking at them in the photo they don't look orange at all. Garage lighting was a little different, I think they are just well used.

Have a new set of NGK Iridiums on the way.

I can pick it up just barely on a few of them. If you're still planning on using it I'd change your plugs every winter because it will eventually foul them.

I don't plan on running anything but 93 for now. Previous owner must have ran it.

Oil change time...sticker said Jan 2023 so it's been over year, even if the car has had only 1200 miles put on it since the last change. Had a little over 8 quarts in her, oil looked good. Had Valvoline filter and sticker on it. Running the finest Walmart Supertech now, and Ford filter.

You think I could find my filter socket adapter?

New plugs are gapped and in. Kind of hard to tell but the engine bay was fairly dusty so I got out a bucket of soap and water and cleaned up as much of it as I could, and I did the inside of the trunk lid area as well.

Ordered a car cover that fits. Was using one that just barely fit my SN95, the hood section wasn't long enough to even attempt to cover this car.

Got a wrench light, on the first startup after the oil and spark plug change. Pedal sensor or TPS, forgot what the code was. Car ran like shit, sounded like it had a cam in it. Turned right around and went back up the driveway. Shut it off and turned it back on and it was fine? Weird.

Also, not sure if it was the plugs or what but the car isn't holding traction from 3rd at 40mph anymore. It's not quite 50 degrees out but it wasn't blowing the tires like that off last time I had it out. So maybe they were worse than I though?

The Shaker 1000 is the one with the sub IIRC. The Shaker 500 was just the upgrades stuff inside. At least that's how it was on our S197. The PO probably messed something up with the install.

Nice car though.

My once in a while coolant leak appears to be coming from the coolant tee, so I grabbed a new set of o rings

I can definitely see a big enough difference after the bucket wash. Now it looks presentable, should you pop the hood at a cruise/show. ;)(y)

Drag radials.... just need to wait for it to get a little warmer...

Discount tire direct had 20% off on fleabay
New shoes make a decent appearance difference and a BIG difference performance wise. Just don't get caught in any downpours with the drag radials. LOL.

Chasing down a little issue where I am only seeing about 6lbs of boost on the initial hit. It seems to go up a little but it's hard to keep an eye on the gauge, the tach, and the road at redline to see where the boost is at...

3.73, 3rd gear is 98mph at 7500rpm

Put a new belt on, didn't make a difference, so I started looking at vacuum lines. Car feels fast but I haven't done a 60-130 or raced something where I can get an idea of how fast the car is.

I would think with a 3.250" pulley and longtubes, I should be seeing about 9lbs? 10psi is what the pulley is rated at. 3.625" pulley is the 7lb pulley.

This compression fitting to a rubber vacuum line might be it. This line goes to the boost gauge (also a hard copper line to the blower? Never seen that before)

I replaced the worm clamp on the elbow, that was barely holding on to the boost actuator, and that didn't seem to change anything either.

False alarm...as I hooked the boost gauge back up, I noticed something. It reads 2-3in of vac when the car isn't even on. Makes sense because I thought it was funny that the car showed 22-23in vac at a warm idle.

I'll just remember to get an AutoMeter gauge at some point.

Played around with control arm angles today, middle hole is the best for me right now. Bottom hole was twitchy, squealed tires on downshifts, and I think I don't have enough shock/spring for as hard as it hits the tires
