I have seen many threads about the preventative measures taken for avoiding THE IRS bolt that rests very close/touches to the inside sidewall for those running 10" or 10.5" width wheels with 295/35 or 315/35 tires when the car is on the lift, but who has ever had a problem while driving?

no spacers, no bolt mods (tried the button head (too weak) and will go back to the shaved stock bolt since I change tires/wheels everytime the weather changes it seems), car lowered 1.25" in the back (sometimes more depending on the track setup)

17X10.5" AFS wheels-

315/35/17 Yoko AVS Sports- no rubbing (current street tire)
315/35/17 Goodyear F1-GS-D3- no rubbing
315/35/17 BFG KD- no rubbing
315/35/17 Yoko A032r- no rubbing
315/35/17 Nitto 555-R (will find out shortly but know they will not)

18X10.5" AFS wheels-

295/35/18 Michelin Pilot Sport- no rubbing
295/35/18 Bridgestone Potenza S-02 - no rubbing
305/30/18 Hoosier A3S03- no rubbing
335/30/18 Michelin Pilot Sport- rubbed the IRS mount bracket, would not work on the car at all.
315/30/18 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup- will be trying this fall but will require a spacer from all indications (13.2" section width)

18x9.5" Ford '00R wheels-

295/35/18 Michelin Pilot Sport- no rubbing
285/30/18 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup- no rubbing
285/30/18 Pirelli P-Zero Corsa- no rubbing

No spacers, no bolt mods, no rubbing with AFS 10.5x17 and Nitto 315/35 DRs. (Now you don't have to try that one, Bingo!)

I know they will not rub, they are almost a half inch narrower than the AVS/KD/F1s but I finally took the plunge. I also bought the Nitto R-II for the fronts so I can save from having an extra set of tire/wheels for the street/autocross.
Once Nitto releases the 315 in the R-II tire this fall then I will have one set for the street/autocross/track events. I might keep the "R" rubber and 18" setup if I get into more than a few OT events with this car.

Wow, impressive list of tires! Would you be willing to review them?

It seems you are interested in the OT thing, but, are any of them clearly better than others for drag racing?

I have been wondering if the F1-GS-D3 are clearly better than the stock F1's the '03's come with, and how they compare to the BFG KD's?

Hey Bingo - I think we're going to have to start calling you the rubber man! I'll be interested in the R-II's if they come out, too. I'll keep my eye out for the release. Thanks for the heads up!

You must have one heck of a garage to store all those tires.

Great Feedback...

Great feedback everyone. I figured as much, but its good to see all the data at a glance.

I believe it is still a good idea to avoid the potential of rubbing if at all possible and put the button head or spacer on the car.

Bingo13, you have some serious change invested in wheels and tires - very nice list.

After doing a number of Searches and sending PMs, I came up empty-handed on finding someone that is selling the IRS bolt.

Anyone have any button head IRS bolts for sale?

Also, given the 7/32" spacer and the IRS button head bolt, which would you do and why?

Poison-S Personally, I wouldn't recommend either of those. I was never a fan of spacers, and I think Undy ended up shearing a lug bolt from using a set. (Although he had some custom ones made up to solve the problem w/ the lugs loosening up w/ time.) The button head bolt topic has been hammered to death pretty hard, too. There's a concern about whether it's safe enough. If you really think you need to do something, I'd recommend the Undy-bolt mod, wherein you grind down the head of the stock bolt. You don't have to remove the bolt, and it's free. Just make sure you leave enough of it on there so it can be removed.

I found the AVS Sports to work great at the track for a street tire. The AO32s were also very sticky, however I doubt any of the street/ot tires would hold a candle to the Nittos/BFG drag radials for drag racing (not to mention MT streets). I did however get a [email protected] with the AVS Sports so it is a matter of learning how to drive this car rather than the tires to a certain degree at first.

The Goodyear GS-D3s are clearly better than the F1s in all aspects and would be an excellent tire choice for dry/wet weather driving, better than the Pilot Sports and S02s in my opinion. I never thought I would say that about a Goodyear tire. They will not match up to the BFG KD or Kumho MX in dry performance but are a much better tire in the wet and cruising on the highway.

I will write a briefing in a couple of days. Hopefully the Nittos will be on tomorrow so I can offer a few comments on them from a handling aspect.

You need to write a driving instruction book for us by the way, my times are mostly due to your comments along with Chillfactors.

Poison_S,

Buy some stock bolts (p/n N802293-s60) and shave the heads. The button head bolts ended up coming loose on me after a visit to Hallet. They are probably fine for most driving but not for OT events. I would not do the spacer either. The only time you would have an issue with the bolt rubbing would be under full travel suspension and I keep saying if that happens then there are worse problems to worry about.

Kewl Bingo13, that sounds like a good approach.

What did you use to shave the head down and by how much?
