I knew a guy with an '02 SS. I gave him a ride in my '03 Terminator bone stock. He refused to race me. He knew he'd get raped. GM has been playing catch up for quite awhile now.
I guess thats what happens when you focus on performance over sales.
When a 1998 LS1 smokes a 2010 Mustang GT......
(heck a 2010 V6 Camaro at 300hp could take a 2010 GT, and lets not talk about 93-02, whew was that ugly)
The 380HP Blackbirds, Berger SS's Dale Earnhardt Editions, etc... were made years before the 03-04 Termi's, which cost a fortune new btw.
The 400HP LS2 GTO might have something to say about that too but who cares about those Super Grand Prix's! haha.
Bottom line, Ford is changin the image of Mustang's at redlights and its a great thing.
I love the new 5.0.
I also understand what Ford is doing with the new GT500 and the ZL1.
They can't afford to let GM pound them again.
Should be fun!
You are acting like GM has been beating Mustangs since the very beginning which of course isn't true. The 90's are over, GM is getting beat, badly. The GTO's were beaten by the Terminators so your mention of that holds no water. Also the "pounding" that Ford has been giving to GM is MUCH worse that what GM has ever done to Ford.
Also no new image for Ford at all with the Mustang, they are just continuing what has been happening since 2002. The new 4.6 GT's weren't slaughtered by the SS's, they were actually very close. Of course the 5.0 changed that.
And that should tell you something when a car is slower and than another but still out sells it. Plus, who cares if GM does produce something faster than Ford, it's not like the Mustang is going to be killed off.....
As far as price goes, have you seen what the top of the line muscle cars are going for nowadays? The ZL1 and GT500 are 55k and above. The Terminator was quite the bang for your buck.
This engine slapped all LS1 owners in the face back in 2003
This one reminded them how outdated the pushrod LSx is in 2007
This one really gave the 5th generation Camaro SS major butt hurt in 2011
and this one reminded the ZL1 how it's a full year too late in 2013 (will release in 2012)

Fixed that up for ya... 4.6 started in 96 and the first 3 years weren't anything to really brag about....lolDon't forget about 87-95 either...
I say to 95 cause come on/..LT1's still could do sh1t against 5.0 pushrods...

I love the Cobra but my totally stock 1999 FRC Corvette walked a stock Cobra. Even tried a different driver in the Cobra for comparison and I still won. So the 4.6 2V or 4V still isnt up to par against a 1999 LS1!
Easily the LS1 has the edge there, especially an 02 T56.lolwut. 98 LS1 taking out even a 3V GT. Funny guy.
