Thanks...

I wanted to run Evans coolant, but the SCCA banned it in World Challenge. We have to run water and we are allowed to add WW or simlar product. I doubt I will see water temps as high as I did last year, but I want to be prepared for the worst. The evil limp mode just gets in the way. My right foot is the only limp mode I need. If it is early in a race and temps go high I know to pull over. If it is the last lap I could care less what the temps are. After this season is over we are going to evaulate our options on computers and engines. If the SCT stuff work we will stick to it, but I'm also looking at doing a Motec setup. We also might look into a aluminum block 5.4L N/A from VT Engines.

I wonder why they banned it???(no kick backs probably)...
Did they ban ethylene glycol coolant specificaly???
Did they ban propylene glycol coolant specificaly???

or did they just say water only with these approved wetters... :nonono:

Here is the cooling rules:

2.9.3.16: Cooling Systems

2.9.3.16.1: Water Cooling

Provided that the stock method of cooling is retained, the cooling system is free,
including cooling fans, but the water radiator must remain in the approximate OEM
location. The mounting angle may be changed. SCCA Pro may approve
immediate, temporary fixes at the track to deal with overheating issues
encountered at an event.

2.9.3.16.2: Permitted Cooling Fluids

Glycol-based coolants are not permitted. Additionally, any other coolants
that significantly reduce the friction properties of the track beyond what
plain water does are not permitted.

2.9.3.16.3: Engine Oil Cooling

Coolers for the engine oil are free in number, type and location.

2.9.3.16.4: Intake Air Cooling

Cars utilizing forced induction will have the size, type, and location of the
intercooler(s) to be used specified on the VTS sheet. The intercoolers may
not be replaced, modified, or relocated without prior approval.

2.9.3.16.5: Water Spray Systems

Water may not be sprayed on any intercoolers, radiators, etc. Water spray
systems may only be used to inject water into the brake ducts. See the brake
section of Article 2.9 for additional details.

[ethylene, propylene] glycol sucks to clean off the track surface.

I was under the impression (perhaps mistakenly) that the propylene version was not a big clean up issue...

Normal antifreeze(ethylene glycol) is for sure... I used to flag at Watkins Glen in the late 70s and yes it is way worse than oil :nonono:

The glycol component is probably the culprit though...and that is even used in lotions.. OH WELL
