What's the process for getting the seat covers back to usable after an airbag splits them? Can't tell from the pic but the leather looks okay, are they just resewing the seam.
Yes, just getting sewn back up with airbag safe string. They count the stitches, and measure the length, and program the machines for those specs. The machine then matches the original stitch hole for hole, and you're done. The guy that does it for us has done a bunch, and generally does high end yachts and designer home furniture. I'm sure it will look great!

Looks like a 70 Cougar in the corner ?
What is the story on that ?
I have a 70 428 CJ Xr7 .
It could be! Last I talked with him, he had a few more than a dozen cougars. One of his many other tastes beside mustang restoration. I'll ask next time I'm over.

Looks like a 95R in the background of the outside shot as well.

Tom
That's correct. It's a clone though, with all original R parts from random leftover ford and svt parts warehouses. Has a correct v6 base car shell, with the correct interior as well. Original wheels, and all the rare upper intake and intake hoses were sourced too. Has a lightning long block which was what they used also. Only thing it needs is some oe rear shocks, the rear spoiler mounted, and something for an oe gt computer, to be flashed for the 5.8. Super cool car!

Got some more done late last night. The guys at the shop got the door straightened, stripes taken off the door, and the bottom of the hood painted. Fender is sanded and has a bit of primer on it as well. Both the fender and hood should be installed on the car today, and lined up. Should be in paint by the first of the week.

Also worked on the interior quite a bit. Took the steering wheel off and swapped on a new clock spring, which was easier than I thought. Some of the buttons on the left side of the steering wheel where all messed up too. Managed to take apart the assembly, and get it back into working order. Nice solid clicks from it, and it saved me some money!

Got the seat belt assembly back as well. Got that tucked in and installed. The side panel has a small 3x3 inch break in it from the seat belt during the accident. So my V6 gave up her good panel for the shelby, and I got both those swapped last night too. Back seat is back together now. Hoping to hear from the interior guy today, so we have an idea of when I'll have the seat covers for the front back.

Tore into the center console, to get down to the air bag control module. It looks like there was something for a soda spilled, I'm guessing during the accident, into the console. Everything is sticky as hell. Wiped some of it down, and I took the padding home to run through the wash machine. Need to clean up some of the wires and connectors some too. The module has some weird triangle screws holding it down, which took a min to find a socket that fits.

It took forever to figure out how the console comes up off the floor pan. I couldn't find what was holding everything down. I just about give up and then noticed the bottom plate in the rear center console can be pried up. Two nuts off some studs there, and the whole thing tilts up enough to get to the module.

I'll button that back up once I get everything cleaned up well enough.

Stopped in last night and snapped a few pics. They got the hood and fenders swapped on and aligned, and a little bit of sanding done too.

Man I cant wait for this to be done!!!

ITS GOT PAINT!!!!!!

I went down last night and the car was already over at the body shop in the booth drying between coats. Paint match came out awesome! We will get a full picture tomorrow, as the whole car will get a buff to smooth things out.

Still waiting on seat covers though, which we may not even hear back on till next week. It looks to be ready to drive next week though! I have a wedding in New York next weekend that I'd really like to road trip the car out to, but it may have to be with my silver cars seats in it.

Tomorrow night my stepson and I should be out late slamming the rest of the interior back together, and the nose back onto the car. That will just leave seat covers, and some basic tune up and oil change stuff left. I'm so close I can taste it!!!

Shes back at the shop! Paint matches really well. They used a water based paint I guess to get a really close match. Only had to run one test color before paint, and they were happy with it, so they ran with it. I'm very happy with it. The original paint needs a good buff, and the brightness will come back in the old paint. We are just taking a meal break for a few mins, then back onto the reassembly.

Few front end things done. Bumper is reassembled and ready to slide on once some of the lower splitters are assembled. Center console, drivers airbag, and the whole passenger door is back together as well. Almost done with the inside, then I can help my stepson finish the nose.

Progress!!!! God it's so rewarding to see something like this come together!

We forgot to swap some brackets in the bumper cover. The upper most part of the bumper has a support piece that is riveted in. We got stumped for a few mins why the upper part of the grill area was sitting low. Upon inspecting the old cover, we found the missing piece. Grinding and some punches were called in to remove the peice, and a few fresh rivets held her back in place in the new cover.

Found one bolt that was forgotten after the bumper cover was attached, which took some contortionists style moves to get put on and tight.

The hood latch bar on the hood appears to be stretched just a whisker too. But a few mins of massaging, and the hood was closing tight, and nice and even.

The bottom of the car including the shields and lower valance need to be put on and tightened still. We will get a better look at fitment once everything is bolted up, but everything looks really good. A few hot days in the sun will help stretch the cover and it should settle in a bit more once that happens.

And I love the blue stripes and all... but she looks damn good in all white!!!!
