Read this thread. I explains how to remove the plate, too.

You are much better off removing it than keeping it. Any torque gains are not worth the risk IMO.

hey everyone so my friend and i have decided to pull off the supercharger on my 04 cobra and inspect/remove the torque plate.....We have run into a little snag...literally. Were not sure what is holding it on still we have removed all the proper lines and bolt to remove it however somewhere inside on the front half its getting snagged....it kind of has a little spring noise when i pull it up could use some info ASAP being that we are mid removal. THANKS!
