We made some small progress this past weekend, almost ready to pull the motor and start assembly...

Due to the nose bars we had to relocate the water pump rearward and down 1"

Intercooler mounts done, welded threaded 3/4" aluminum boss(s) to the tank and used DOM tubing for the struts

Makes sense on the gusset for the FC to main hoop. I'll knock that out this week. Just got a few small things done.
Pulled and tore the motor down
Clearanced for rod bolts
Clearanced for W2W accusump fitting
Milled oil pan(LS1 pressure flange)
Cleaned all the internals to assemble
Finished welding up the motor plate mounts to the frame rails
Fenders and rear bumper were shipped off to the body shop to start the body work
Doors will be sent at the end of the week

Still need to finish up some of the small sheetmetal work up front and inside the car. Thursday I'll knock out hopefully the front sheetmetal work and start on the back.

I should have some good progress tomorrow if all goes well.....

I ordered a test piece of the hose for my water side of the intercooler and its the correct hose. Andy Jensen turned me onto this hose, very light, flexible and won't kink or collapse. The hose is 1.25" ID and was just over a dollar per foot, we had to run the 1.25" while the old cores need only 3/4".

Nothing exciting yet....We're making progress very slowly but its coming along...

Undershot, panel in place water pump mount

Testing roll cage, some graphite metallic texture paint, very thick seems durable.. any opinions
IMG_0489.JPG

Firewall work, made patch panels for all the old holes still working on...
IMG_0490.JPG

Filled in all the holes and sanded flat

Front radiator core support modified for turbo clearance pic 2:
IMG_0501.JPG

Clearance very tight between A pillar bars and A pillar cover, A pillar had to be cut and welded to give me 1/2" more room between the bar and the cover. The cover had to be modified slightly but its not noticeable.
IMG_0502.JPG

Finally decided on the paint, used the texture paint with duplicolor clear enamel ontop. The pics don't do it justice, its bad ass.

Got the rear back in the car and the wheels are dead nuts where they need to be. Also here is a shot of the rear end trunk area.
IMG_0516.JPG

IMG_0517.JPG

Great news, last night I stayed up til 3 getting everything done. Got the
- window net mounts relocated to the inside of the cage
- front corners of firewall patched for nose bars
- final fire wall patch panels made and welded
- rear sheetmetal done

The only things I have left are not really important...
- C02 mounts - I'll probably end up using bar style mounts, I had thought about using a 1/4" bar to mount them to a C shaped 16 ga piece of sheetmetal and use a clamp
- Rear seat sheetmetal
- accusump mounts

I think I'll try and get it over to my dads house this week so we can start the body work and I can start the powertrain.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through my final punch list of things to do before it goes to paint. The stuff is mostly small BS stuff but needs to get done. Got all of the necessary holes drilled for wiring harness, fuel lines, wires, ect. Got the accusump mount done, the interior of the car is done, all of the floor pans are now welded to the bars and sealed.

Update on parts that are on the way, hopefully final round:
Dedenbear Co2 Setup(Jegs)
Instant fittings(Mcmaster Carr)
1/8" NPT Bung for valley cover
Jegs Aluminum Co2 bottle Mounts
Lokar Powerglide Dipstick firewall mount
Mickey Thompson Drag radials

Didn't get much done this weekend...
- Used a piece of 6" aluminum tubing 18" long, cut a 1/2" section out to make a inlet on the bumper for the turbo. Got the bumper cut and than trimmed the aluminum tube so it contours the bumper

- Milled ~.015 off the back of the pistons, just used a round aluminum burr and milled a groove between the wrist pin, have about .020 of clearance now

- Cleaned the block for assembly

- Cleaned/Hung the rods on the pistons

- Tig welded reluctor wheel to crank

- Dropped the crank in the LSx block, installed main caps and completed 2 torque sequences

- Drilled remining holes in the valley cover and pre-fit 1/8" bung for oil pressure

- Ground off fill tube from valve covers to weld on Aluminum fill bung and cap

- Touched up a couple areas on the cage where the paint was thin

- Mounted fenders and front bumper back onto car to go to paint

I'll get some more work done tomorrow morning before work.

Got out of work late and didn't get started til 8ish.
- Got 2 coats of clear on the cage
- Hung all the rods
- Filed the rings
- Crank was installed last night
- applied quick seat to the walls
- Dropped all 8 pistons into the motor
- Did one round of torque
new pics are coming tomorrow afternoon!

All I have left to do is to weld in the mini tubs that should be here monday and its off to paint.

Lets see....
Moser 9" Braced
QA-1 Shocks
Wolfe Racecraft Lower control arms
Custom upper control arms
Wolfe Sway bar with fab'd mounts

Thanks Kyle, I may have to take you up on that.

-Anywho, got more pics coming As far as the motor goes:
- Dropped Callies Crank into place, ARP main studs are torqued 3x
- Installed:
** Diamond Pistons , ARP rod bolts are torqued 3x
** .060 Oil Restricters
** Wheel 2 Wheel Cam is in, degreed - as far as I can tell its within 1/2 of a degree
** Soaked the Crower Solid Lifters and dropped them in
** Timing chain(s) with tensioner
** Oil pump centered and installed
- Chased/Cleaned:
** Head stud holes
** Deck
- Ream'd out the Cometic head gasket holes for the larger studs
Installed:
** O-ring last night on both sides of the motor
** All (46) Head studs
** Copper sprayed driver side head gasket
** Water plugs

Got the driver side head on and all the bolts are torqued to either 20/15 ft-lbs, hopefully tomorrow I can mock up the valvetrain on one side to get the correct pushrod lengths so the machine shop can make them this week before the holiday crunch.

I got the car ready to go to the body shop next weekend so I switched gears and started working on the motor. I'm waiting on a set of Smith brothers custom pushrods and I should be able to finish up the motor. I still have to do a couple of mods to the oil pan and pickup.
IMG_0596.JPG

IMG_0597.JPG

Had to modify a 12 point wrench to be able to tighten bolt. Welded old socket on the open end and grinded down the other end to gain access.
IMG_0598.JPG

Too many head bolts to torque, 46 to be exact. 105lbs on the 1/2", 47lbs on the 3/8" and 25lbs on the 8mm. I've gone through one cycle.
