So here I am - 2003 ZY cobra with just over 90k miles on it. I've owned it since about 65k miles (bought it in october 2010). I love driving this car, so keeping the mileage low for resale value isn't really a concern at this time.

Current mods:

2.76" pulley with the 4-piece BF idler kit with bracket
JLT RAI
Diablosport MAFia
MM FLSFC's
BF IRS brace
SCT x3 handheld
2 custom dyno tunes. 91 octane and race gas (just more timing really).
Steeda Cat-Back
Centerforce Dual Friction clutch kit (I think it's rated for 600tq) - still 10 spline though.

Have but not installed:

Offroad Prochamber h-pipe.

So Im trying to figure out what I want to do with the car. I am currently using it as my DD, but Im driving much less than I ever have before. My commute to work is only 4.4 miles each way now. Car runs amazingly well, especially for it's mileage. Motor is completely stock as is the blower (minus the pulley on it). Using Oklahoma's wonderful 91 octane fuel (at least it was 100% gas) I was able to put down 434hp/451tq on a mustang dyno in the middle of summer (July 2011).

I have never been to the drag strip in this car. Heck, I've never driven ANY car at a drag strip, I've only been a spectator a handful of times. I'd like to go at least once if not a couple of times before I eventually end up selling the car.

So I think there are a couple of directions to go at this point.

1) Ported Eaton and supporting mods. I figure roughly 500hp with a "race gas" tune (91 octane and Torco). Roughly $1500 including a dyno tune session

2) VMP TVS kit and supporting mods. 600+ hp with a "race gas" (91 octane and Torco) tune. Roughly $4500 including a dyno tune session

3) Nitrous Kit and supporting mods. 75-100 shot making a total of lets say 550hp at the wheels. Roughly $1200 including a dyno tune session. KEY POINT TO KEEP IN MIND - I've never used nitrous before.

4) Enjoy car as is and just continue to save money to put toward whatever the next car will be.

Now I know that really it depends on what Im going to use the car for and really, it's been a point A to point B car, but I'd like to change that by getting more involved with the local car scene and track days (both at the drag strip and road course). Part of me feels like if I don't do SOMETHING I will lose interest and jump to a different platform. It's really my job's fault as it has been taking up most of my time lately.

The points of concern I have are in regards to engine and transmission age. Would adding this kind of power (additional stress) be a bad idea at this point? The car is showing me that there aren't any foreseeable issues with this as it is running very strong right now, but my brain is telling me "hey...your sportscar has 90k miles on it and you want to add upwards of 100hp or more to it as is??!!" Granted, I haven't done a compression test in a couple of years...

So anyway, enough rambling, if you were in my shoes what would you do?

I would do the TVS. AND I would do the FTBR IRS bushing kit. I still haven't done the IRS kit myself because of scheduling conflicts, but the more I read the 'night and day' difference reviews on this kit the more I realize that its a mod that will bring greater enjoyment to this car. I can't even put into words how much I dislike the spongy feel of that stock IRS.

I am in the same position as you, I'm gonna do a TVS. I love my car but I'm bored with 470 rwhp. Hopefully by the end of summer I'll have one on the car. It's all depending on money. Sucks being a student.

I'd go with the TVS, it will re ignite your love for the car and will still be super easy to dd.

Agreed, any blower swap will be AMAZING and the drivability won't be hurt. Driving my 99 Cobra then going to my 03 KB Vert was flawless until I smashed the pedal, that's when things got hairy.

You won't be disappointed.

I would go with what your wallet will allow you to do. I probably wouldn't go nitrous unless you ported the blower though.

Sad to read, after readin how stoked you were to get it. Only had mine 2 years and i never once felt bored with it. Put a smile on my face everytime i sat in it. Stock power wise. I miss driving it everyday. I drive an '09 focus now. Great car, no cobra.

are you definitly going to sell it?

If you are, why would ever spend another dime on the car...you'll never get it back out of the sale.

I would suggest the VMP TVS 2.3 option.
A 100+ boost in HP and Tq will definitey add to the fun factor.

Stay away from the bottle if you never ran nitrous before theres more to it the just hitting a button. bottle prssure has to be from 875 to 1000 depending on what it was when tuned. in order to get that bottle pressure your gonna have to heat the bottle with a electric blanket if its cool or cold out thats not even scratching the surface. also you should run a colder plug when you spray so you will be driving around normaly on to cold a plug.nitrous is good for the track when you go there set up to spray. with a bigger blower your good to go all the time.

Trust me, I am not bored to the point where I would ever ever sell the Cobra. I love my car and what I have done to it since I got it. I'm used to the power and know every aspect of how it runs, and I just want more. I feel like no matter how much power you have that you will ever be satisfied. Nothing wrong with more power

When you put money into a car more than likely your not going to get it back. When it comes time to sell you know people are going to point out how many miles are on the car. If you plan on selling soon I wouldn't drop 4 grand into it. But hey, it's your car do what you see fit!

definitely take it to the track to see what it will run!

and no you shouldn't worry about upgrading the power at this point even with 90k

best of luck with it and have fun

I agree with this. I enjoy my car most when I'm beating on her. Modifying a car is fun, but USING it is so much better. A good fast run through mountain roads and I'm back in love

I never ran nitrous before my cobra but have the correct plugs, window switch, tune and of course good gas and you'll be fine. I have a nano kit on mine so I don't even have to worry about pressure. Turn switch on and go.
