A person told me about a dozen states allow folks to drink a beer while riding in a car, obviously not driving. If you know of a state like this please post it up.

ehh not in the Northeast, the cops purposely pull anyone over with window tint, they label them as "putting all cops in danger" because their visibility isnt clear for how many people are in the car and what they are doing.

Wow. tints not a some secondary offense? In most states I beleive, cops will give a fix it ticket for tint but only after they pulled you over for a traffic offense to begin with

It USED to be legal. Now no open containers are allowed at all. It just changed I think about a year ago or so.:(

It's been on the books since 2001. I got popped by it a few years back. Got pulled over for no front plate - had a box of liquor from a party the night before in the back seat of my mustang and the seal was broken on a few bottles - DPS let me put the liquor in the trunk, I got got a nice open container ticket.

same for Alabama, no open containers law not that old here. But, you can have an open container while riding in a boat, obviously not while driving it.

Obviously not here, but in Belgium when we would go out, we would have a DD anyway so it was beers for everyone in the car.!! Badass if you ask me, it was nice having a "Pre-Game" in the car on the way to the club/bar.

Another note:

Open Container Laws prohibit the possession of any open alcoholic beverage container and the consumption of any alcoholic beverage in the passenger area of a motor vehicle. In 1998, the Federal government took steps to encourage states to enact open container laws by passing the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21), which required states to enact open container laws by October 1, 2000 or lose a portion of their Federal-aid highway construction funds. To avoid having their funds transferred to other safety activities, states must certify that they comply with Federal requirements and that their open container law is in effect and being enforced. By April 2004, 36 states and the District of Columbia complied with Federal terms of this law

My girlfriend told me it was legal in Missouri, at least when she lived there.

It's illegal in FL.

Nj is not one
but it shouldnt be in any state, when you are drunk you do stupid things, possibly doing something stupid enough to the driver or just in the car enough to cause an accident

I remember it being legal in Washington and Montana. I kind of assumed it was legal to do it everywhere in the US. On our Western US road trip last year we drank in the car all the time.
