I think you can turn them down or completely turn them off with a predator tuner..

So far that is what I've read, but I'll dig some more and find out for sure. (unless someone here already knows the process)

Hey Jamie R or OzzDOA have you ever tweaked your timing to the point you actually heard your cars pinging when you had the knocks turned off? I've never encountered it and my spark plugs don't show signs of detonation so it's pretty obvious the sensors are pulling timing and I DON'T WANT THAT! And as far as making them less sensitive F that, if there's a chance they'll kick in by vibration or other outside factors not related to actual detonation why cost yourself potential peak power? 03-04's don't have em and seem to run FINE!
You know how we did it back in the day with our Fox Bodys, turn the distributor till it pings then back it off a hair and boom your done, if it could only be so easy nowadays, haha!!

Never messed with the timing since I had it dyno tuned. At 28* it is pretty much maxed out anyway for 93 octane. No knocks, pings or anything.

Thanks OZZ yeah I was thinking on turning them off at setting timing to 26!
And 006 you can't turn the knocks off with the Predator itself, it has to be done with it's software program as you create a custom tune!

i went through my predator yesterday twice, and mentions nothign about knock sensors.

I feared this :(

Anyways, I think anyone who needs a tune written for their car and has a tuner can do a datalog of their driving and e-mail the file to Rick at Amazon. He can then adjust your tune to match your specific real world road driving conditions and e-mail a tune back to you...and you can have him turn off the knock sensors or turn them down.

After you install the tune, you datalog it again, and send him the file and if he finds that there needs to be some tweaks, he'll do it and send you the update.

Here is their info, fees etc and their tunes include lifetime updates at no extra charge (Killer Deal!):

At least for the SCT stuff it is not a "user configurable" option. It has to be done within the tuning software the tuner uses to author the tune.

what do you guys use to determine whether your Knock sensor is getting triggered? I have an OBD2 scanner that logs real time but it says nothing about KS. The reason I ask is sometimes I get what sounds like knocking at 3700-ish RPM under moderate load.

I have my set at 26 degree's, you could add 2-3 more degree's and have no gains or detonation. But then a bad tank of gas, and your motor's in peices.

I always wonder about the knock sensors in all these cars, I figure the best bet is to just pull the intake and wrap them in something to absorb sounds, but its gotta be something thats gonna stay together and not burn......any good ideas?

I dont think i trust roll bar padding or swim noodles like someone use lol

Not worth the trouble, get them turned off in the tune.
Only way to go!

You can actually configure in the custom tune a temperature point for the knock sensors to trigger, mine are set at 205 degrees!

We actually turned mine off during a tuning session and I picked up about 3rwhp. Now, those things just stay off FOREVER :)

Knock sensors are a good thing!.. I use them on almost every car i tune on, I just recalibrate the acceptable backround noise for cars that need it.

Not every car needs them turned off, in fact its very few cars that have combos that need them turned off. If you tuner has the knowledge to do it you'll probably have to offer them extra money because I will say that it is definately something that takes some time to do unless multiplying by a ballpark percentage is acceptable and just multiply all the sensitivity tables. I like using keeping the knock sensors active because it ensures my clients they can keep beating on their vehicles and not worry about a timing issue. So when the bad tank of gas does come and your loud exhaust drowns out any audible knocks you probably wont hear, especially on blower cars you engine will live well past that tank of fuel, you'll just notice the damn thing got slower for that fill.

EDIT: If your car is in disrepair or you have a PD blower, you should either fix your car or relocate your knock sensors to the outside of the block..
