I can understand the concern. But I also am skeptical of any doomsday idea for performance.
With youtube/video services help, it seems like car enthusiasts are beginning to grow/reach audiences like never before. Cool cars are more popular than they used to be. Ford just made an ST version of the explorer/edge for goodness sake. When was the last time you heard of soccer mom jane wanting a performance mom mobile?
What's going to happen is the speed/power of these cars are going to get curtailed soon. That's a given. Not every car can make 700hp off the lot. That would be a bit much for insurance to swallow. Realistically what will happen though is the technology imbued into the cars will get better. They will become more efficient. Do more with less. And eventually be as good as driving an economy car in terms of MPG.
