Then they have dropped in price since last I checked LOL! where did you see the simulator thingy? that would be cool to check out

Its a chain here in NoVA I believe called Sleepy's
BTW, I don't think SleepNumbers are expensive compared to other quality mattresses. I know when I first bought a 'real' mattress I thought they were expensive, but to me (now) a 1k-2k isn't expensive for a mattress compared to the quality of sleep you get on it compared to a 300-500 mattress.

Sometimes a hotel bed can pick you a winner. Because you get to try it out for one or more sleep nights. My wife and I stayed at the Maya Hotel in Long Beach last week and our bed was the best we've ever slept on. If we were looking for a new bed, THAT would be the one we'd pick. Laying on a bed in a showroom isn't the same as actually sleeping on it for at least one night.

This is true, I stayed at the Grand Casino (Gulf Coast MS) a few months ago. The best damn sleep I had in years. The next morning, I had that mattress flip and twisted. I couldn't find a tag, sticker or anything. The hotel couldn't tell what brand it was. I'm on a quest to get a mattress similar to that one.

Buy a more firm mattress? Have you never been to a furniture store. They have them lined up where you can lay on them. I prefer the latex mattresses myself. I like a soft mattress though.

yeah, same as a car, .,., test drive

Around here there is a bed chain store called Sleepy's (not sure if it's nationwide). They have the bed simulators that do electronic measurements of your pressure points while laying on them. From that diagnostic, they come up with a recommendation on the firmness you need. We did that several years ago when I herniated a disc in my low back. At that point finding the perfect mattress became critical for me, and I did not care what it cost! We ended buying a Kings Down (I think that's how it's spelled). Anyway, it was, and still is the best bed I have ever slept in. Occasionally when we travel there are beds that I sleep great in, but for the most part, I can't wait to get back to my own bed. I would suggest checking that store out, or one like it near you. I believe they have a 30 day trial type program, in case it just isn't right for you, also.

Especially when you consider you spend an average of 7 hours a day on that mattress.

OP, maybe the problem isn't your mattress? You ever consider that 3 freakin' dogs in the bed might have something to do with it? Holy shit dude...

BTW, I hear good things about the memory foam and will consider one of those for my next purchase. Nice and quiet, movement doesn't effect your spouse, but they are suppose to be "hotter" so you might need a thinner bed set.

SleepNumbers are $2k max iirc.

Tempurpedics (the foam ones) are upwards of $5k.

Me and the gf are looking into a fempurpedic from overstock.com, same specs as a tempurpedic but $500. Even has the cool cell airflow technology which you cant get on a tempurpedic until the $4k mark.

See if there is an Original Mattress Factory near you. They have every mattress they make out to lay on. Great prices and they make them right in the back.

I've purchased like 10 mattresses from them over the years and I love them. They made a custom California king for my parents for a very good price.

Rob and I are actually going to buy a mattress tonight. We don't have any problems with how soft or firm ours is, but we are squeezing into a standard bed each night. After sleeping on a King for a week in Maui, we are tired of our tiny mattress. We looked at the tempurpedic, but they are a little more than we are willing to spend right now (have a lot of other stuff that we need to do) so we will probably get a pillow top.

My parents have a sleep number bed, and it has actually helped my mom tremendiously. She gets really bad migraines as well as back pain (she has had back surgery) and the sleep number is the only mattress she seems to be able to actually get a good nights sleep on.

Lay on it. Every piece of info I've found says the same thing: Innerspring matresses are all the same, just different prices. A few of the brands are actually same thing, just with a new name and higher price tag. Lay down and pick which feels best on your back. We picked out a queen that's going to run us 400ish and it was more comfy than some of the 1k beds we tried out.
