I'll dispense with the "whys" of avoidance and move right to the "how to's".

This year I'm adopting the Ron Swanson approach.

So far, so good. My own mother is the tough one to get along with, love her to pieces but man she drives me crazy.

However, I did write a radio commercial in regards to mother-in-laws around the Holidays that seemed to be a hit, this was years ago.

I get along just fine with my in-laws, plus they are awesome cooks. No worries there. Only problem is that I need "my time" to recharge after any social outing. Just time listening to music, practicing music, sleeping- alone time pretty much. Hard to do around the holidays.

That, and there's the inevitable "hints" about having kids.

I don't have much of an issue with the lady friends family. And hers with mine.

But I generally don't enjoy being there so.. I talk about cars and football only. It's like the red sea parted and I can walk around and eat unimpeded.

I get along fine with mine, but they are not coming up this year. We are instead going back to see my family in Iowa.

Do not get married maybe. Only child. Parents been dead many years. Miss them dearly. Wife no in-law problems. Wife mother died last year. No mother-in-law problems.

No answer for you but I can say that it would be nice to have in-laws to have problems with. Good luck anyways.
