How do I tell my wife

Guys I have a dilemma. I ordered my Cobra on the 30 of July. My car has already left the plant and is enroute to the Tuscon dealership blk/vert. Here is the problem.

I'll be out of town at the end of next month for 10 days.

My wife thinks she will have the car available to her while I'm gone. :nono: (Just is not gonna happen).

BACKGROUND:

I love my wife.... However, she is accident prone. She had (operative word had) a 4 cyl Mustang. She got into 4 fender benders, no major accidents, and spun the car 360 degrees on a remote highway in New Mexico. It was frickin Thanksgiving blew out both tires on the right side. Twas difficult finding a shop had to travel (read; hitchhike) 70 miles to Pecos TX to get them fixed.

Following year I bought her a Jeep Grand Cherrokee. She tried to hitch my boat to the Jeep. I'll delete the details. She left the wheel down on the trailer. She went through a ditch dislodging the hitch. She called me while I was at work to tell me that the boat hitch went through the rear door of the Jeep. When I got there my boat was resting on the back of her jeep. The hitch traveled two feet through the door and was a few inches from the rear seat. AAARRRGGHHH. I didn't say anything but I was peeved.:bash:

Here we are in 2003. Told her I was leaving for training she says O.K. that will give me some time to drive your car!!!!! No she was not kidding. To myself I'm thinking AAAAWWWW NAH HELL NAH!!!!! There is no way she is going to drive this car. I don't know how to break it to her but I just don't want her within 10 feet of this car without me in it.

I always tell her that she is beautiful but blonde, very blonde. A very accurate statement.

To make things worse our Anniversary is this week.... Decisions, decisions......

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

 How about this..... find something wrong with the car, anything at all and put it in service. If you can't find anything and you really want it to stay there the entrie time your gone tell them it has the vibe and stalls. They can't readily diagnose the stall so it'll take a while. In the mean time your wife get's to drive the rental, just get the insurace, and your car stays safe. That way your wifes' feelings don't get hurt. ;-)

Get it home and in a couple of days tell her the dealership called and said not to drive it because theres a recall, and to bring it right in when you get home from training.

The girl is a hot rodder. She drove a Dodge Dart in high school and liked it. Her father was a mechanic. Her brother is a mechanic on a racing team in Daytona. Her father told me not to let her drive it.

The "you can't drive a stick" routine won't work. She can drive anything... Her problem is she is always in a hurry and reckless.

She doesn't need a rental. She left her Jeep on a street downtown El Paso. Someone ripped the thing off. (I was just about to buy a used 2001 Cobra) She now drives a Mountaineer. We just paid the Mountaineer off so I could get my 03.

The woman is wild she just wants to smoke the tires on my car.... NO WAY. She really is a good woman. Everything I would ever want. I just don't want her tearin up my car and I don't want her to think I don't trust her. However, I don't trust her.

You sir, are in a pickle. Luckily for me my wife knows my stang (currently a modded 2000 GT - soon to be 03 Cobra) is my baby. And on the RARE occassions that she drives it - she is extremely carefull and parks at the back of the lot, and can drive a stick pretty darn good.

Depends on the type of relationship you have, and how easily her feelings get hurt. Bottom line is - brace yourself - it's just a car, it is not worth friction between your spouse IMHO.

Sounds like quite a delima. You just have to train them from day one. ;-), but since you have a hell raiser from way back your kinda stuck. It's just a matter of time b4 you have to give it up anyways. So Lay down the strict break in procedure and hope for the best.. :coolman:

I have done this to my girl (pavlov dog style)
1. She says.."I want to drive your car"
---I say....nope...smack with stick...
2. She says .."please let me drive..."
---I say...nope...smack with stick...

repeat till the sight of the stick elicts no more requests.... :):rolling:

I solved that problem last year and built her an 88 5.0l for her to drive, she loves it and wont drive anything else. She was so obsessed last year, all she wanted for her birthday was a wing for the car.

put the fear of the computer in her...tell her it's a new design that'll log everything she does and maybe that'll force her to break it in properly ;-)

Your mission, should you choose to accept it :

Got any cop friends? Have them put the boot on the car while it's in your garage. Put a Club on your steering wheel (and take the keys with you). Take the car keys to the Cobra with you. Then the real kicker. Have three 3 foot long metal rods placed vertically in the concrete of your garage floor. Leave about 6 inches or so sticking out and drill a hole in the top of each rod. You'll be putting them just outside each of your Cobra's rear wheels. Take a third metal bar and run it through the spokes of the rear wheels. Drill holes in each end then mate them up to the rods imbedded in the concrete. Use large, heavy duty Master padlocks to secure the three rods together. With the one laying horizontally through the spokes of your wheels, that car isn't moving. Finally, take the padlock keys with you and go to http://www.trackmenow.com With this system you'll be able to check on the location of your car and make sure it hasn't moved.

Good luck!
