Well, the key is to start with young ones. Know where they come from because Discus from Asia will show brilliant colors at a very young age but that is because they pump them full of hormones so they appear healthy and colorful but the long term effect on them is stunted growth and short life span. Discus require 85F, lots of food, feed 3-5X a day, clean water, I mean 50% WC's every other day. I know its a PITA but you see the end result :-D

Where do you get your discus?.. are you a breeder?

I do not want wild discus as I hear they are even harder to acclimate.. I will also remove all Carbon as I hear Discus are very sensitive to old carbon:dw:

used to have a some Piranha's a few years back. Started with 4....they weren't very aggressive at first and seemed to all get along well. Apparently they had a disagreement one night and 1 of em ate the other 3 lol.....they were cool fish but hated light, so i could never leave the tank lights on....Eventually the last one died and I sold the tank....I'd like to try a salt water tank one day, just don't have the time right now!

I used to have an Silver Arowana as well until it committed suicide. He was about 6 inches and managed to jump out a hole in the back :(

I have a 180gal that I am slowly stocking up..cichlids, silver dollars & mono at the moment

damn 50%+ water change on a 125g is a PITA. I'll stick to a more hardy fish. Your fish look amazing btw. Great setups!

when raising arowanas, you must be very careful to cover all possible holes on the tank or they will jump the hell out! my two arowanas are extremely active at night so every night before i go to bed, i place decent size books (for added weight) on the covers of the tank; and i still hear them ramming into the covers throughout the night! damn! :nonono:

thx for the compliment!

Not a fish guy but op's avatar is amazing

glad that you like my avatar pics! LOL!

After a while the carbon starts releasing toxins that it absorbed when it was new. So its a good idea to replace it often but if you do frequent WC's you dont need carbon. The discus I had are Stendker Discus You can order them from Discus Hans out of Baltimore MD : Stendker Discus from Discus Hans

I have a 47 gal bow front and a 75 gal both fresh water and planted. I used to have a lot of fun with them, but just dont have the time anymore. If ther is anyone around SE TN that would be interested in them let me know. I would take 400 to someone who would get use out of them.

And yes I know this is not the 4 sale section. Just that this is the topic and dont want a buch of usless calls

Sounds like some of you guys are stocking WAY too many fish in too small of a tank. Silver aros and Jardinis should not be kept together. When the Jar reaches the 8-12" size, theres a 99% it will kill EVERYTHING. Silvers get to 3', Jars to 2'. For both fish, you need a tank AT LEAST 8' long 3' wide and 2' tall. I will post pics tomorrow.
