We had the opportunity last night to take our new 5.0L to the track for the first time. We wanted to get some baseline runs in with the car completely stock. The car came from the factory with a 6 speed manual trans, 3.73 gears and the Brembo brake package which also consists of 19" wheels with Pirelli tires.

The weather was hot and humid with air temps of 82deg (Typical FL summer weather). Behind the seat was Lethal Performance's own Derek Perez. At this point Derek had only driven the car on the street for a short cruise so we knew it would take a few runs for him to get comfortable with the car and used to shifting with the new 6 speed setup.

After a few runs Derek made his way into the 12's with a 12.97@109mph. That was with a 1.97 60ft. The run after that Derek cracked off a [email protected] with a 1.92 60ft.

We had intended putting on the slicks and skinnies and making a few more passes but forgot that we needed to install the sway bar relocation bracket for the 15" wheels to fit. That basically ended the evening.

Overall it was a good night at the track and we hope to be back there next Wednesday. We may try a few more runs stock as Derek believes with a good 60ft we could see a 12.50. Then we'll throw a custom Jon Lund tune on the car and see what she does.

Here's a few pics from last night compliments of Danielle Perez and some video footage of last nights 12.79 run.

There are a couple 10th's left in the car that I can squeeze out on our next outing on the stock 19's. It would be very hard for a stock Terminator to run 12.50's our of the box. Mind you, I haven't driven a car like this since the middle of last year, since our 2010 GT500 went under the knife. So, with that said, I'm marginally happy with how I did last night, definitely room for improvement on my part, but I am super happy with the car, much better than the GT500 IMO.

Nice job guys! That is the exact car I would order if I go this route.
How close are ya'll to West Palm/Juno Beach? My brother lives out there.

We are just west of WPB, juno is NE of WPB.

My little sis took this picture without knowing what I was doing. She didn't notice until she was editing the pictures last night :D

Wow, very nice. It appears that with what I have seen/read the car is full of potential. Tune raising limiter to 7k, CAI, L/T's and O/R pipe will put you somewhere near 425-440 at the tires.

These cars are going to run high 11's with minimal mods and effort.

12.79 bone stock in S. Fla in June. Most impressive guys! I'd like to look up the local weather and get an idea of what the DA was. Can you please give me the time of the run off the timeslip?

Thanks!

Oh...Derek is obviously a very good driver, so I kinda wish you'd have gotten a 3.55 car. Am sure the mph would have been more, and bet it would have gone a bit quicker (bone stock) too. That said, I don't blame you one bit for getting 3.73s....once the rev limiter is bumped up and with a sticky tire, the thing is going to scream!

Great job Derek, glad to see you back in the drive seat!
Keep it that way, Lethal crew drives Lethal cars!

Bob Cosby, where have you been? Good to see you out there, I bet you could be the first 2011 GT in the 10's BONE STOCK:lol:

LOL. I'm afraid that 1/8th mile record has already been beaten.... ;-)

Retired from the Navy over a year ago, now out in Knoxville, TN trying to teach high school kids a thing or two.

Good to hear from ya!

Bob,

Jared has the time slip somewhere and I can't seem to find it, I'll have to wait for him to get to the office. If I remember correctly though, the pass was made around 9 pm or so. I ran the 12.97, put the Bogarts on all 4 corners, then found that the sway bar was contacting the rear wheels, so then I swapped the stock wheels back on and made the 12.79 pass.

I think the MPH seems down on this car because it has the big brakes and such. All the other cars running around are using the small, standard GT brakes.

And Bob, thanks for the compliment on the driving. I definitely have to work on some things as I haven't been in the seat for nearly a year, but it's a big deal to me to get that compliment from you, big fan here.

Jay, thanks for the compliment as well. I had a lot of fun in the car, been waiting a LONG time for the 5.0L to return  Waiting for one of your kickass CAI's :burnout:

That's very nice of you, and you're most welcome. The DA at the airport at 9 pm was ~1700 ft. Run that thing in the winter......yowzzzer!

I am told that the Brembos really don't add any extra weight, but can't confirm. 19" wheels are probably a bit heavier than the 18's though.

Did you get into 5th gear near then end of the run? The 6850 rpm rev limiter ought to be kicking in right around 109-110 mph. I think that probably hurts MPH more than anything with the 3.73 gear cars.

Tks for all the info....hopefully one of these has my name on it sometime around the first of next year. :)

I did use 5th as this car has like a 2 stage limiter. Around 6500 rpm, it slowly starts to limit power before you hit the 6850 fuel cut limiter. My very first pass I tried passing in 4th and barely made it, the car went 107 MPH. I didn't want to use 5th because traditionally, 5th was always a PITA to hit hard, but with this trans, it's a different story. Next pass I used 5th (powershifted all gears) and picked up 2 MPH, to 109 MPH. I was shifting all gears at 6400 rpm. I am anxious to just raise the rev limiter and get rid of the torque management from 6500-6850 rpm with no other changes in the tune and see what it does, shift the thing at 7200 rpm or so.

I would imagine the larger 14" rotors have to weigh more than the 12" stockers on the normal GT's, rotational weight at that. Oh well, it was just a thought because I was a little curious how others were getting 110+ MPH trap speeds and noticed they were usually the base GT's.

Here is an In Car cam of the 12.97 run

Cool. It is that rev limiter/torque management issue that makes me think the 3.55 cars will be the quickest bone stock...but most folks won't leave em that way long. Good to know that 5th is useable, especially for those that want to get nutso and run 4.56s or something.

Moving the rev limiter up should make a HUGE difference with these motors. A 7200-7400 shift point seems about right, though I haven't run through the numbers with a dyno graph.

Good luck, and thanks again!
