Eye Contact

I've been working on it a lot lately. About a year and a half ago my ex mentioned to me that I never made eye contact with anyone, just constantly looked around when I spoke to her, or anyone for that matter. I had no idea that I was doing that. It finally began to annoy me when I would find myself looking away when I was talking to someone, so I've been trying to force myself to look others in the eyes.

I make good eye contact most of the time. I've worked in customer service for years and it definitely is beneficial to do my job. If I'm having a relaxed conversation with a friend I will look around at other things. I also talk with my hands a lot. I have actually been called out on talking with my hands by complete strangers.

Definitely a worthwhile trait to have, or learn. It is amazing how many people will look away and fidget just by persistently looking them in the eye during scenarios like business matters, ect.

Another key attribute is a very firm handshake.

I feel akward looking to someones eyes, their head begins to get smaller on their body and their eyes begin to buldge out and i feel like their voice is getting squeaker and squeaker... and its hard to take them serious at that point, so i have to take breaks every once inawhile... not only that I start thinking of the voice and the sounds its making, and start thinking about how those words are really just vibrations going through the air, and some how my brain is trained into decyphering what they mean... pretty much I go on a crazy trip If i stare someone in the eyes... plus i get real involved in their eyeball movement, and the veins that go throughout, and start wondering... how the **** does that ball of jelly and tissue really work? And why are there capillaries in them?...


I seriously think I have a bad issue of paying attention... so instead I just look around and listen best I can taking glances every once inawhile....

You took the words right out of my mouth. Doesn't matter who I talk to I have to look away to collect my thoughts. I start to read in too deeply to a conversation and whats going on with someones face if I make eye contact too long. Though I don't have this problem with people Im very close to like my parents and brother. :??:

If I don't look around it becomes very easy for me to stop listening to the other person. Can only stand that drone for so long.

Whats worse is when someone is wearing sunglasses and talking to you.
I always remove mine to make eye contact unless the sun is blazing in my face.

Yup. I am great at holding a true conversation. I learned it by watching people. My nieces and nephews cant look at anyone for more than 5 seconds. Took my nephew on a few interviews and watched him sink into his seat slowly. Taught him posture and eye contact...problem solved.

I do, mostly with women and not so much other dudes, kind of gay if you stare them in the eyes for an entire conversation. Depends on the seriousness of the conversation.

Can also work ways other than a conversation. If I'm at a party or something and catch a girl looking right at me I'll look her right in the eyes.

Also for those who can't look in the eyes, look at the bridge of their head, like where a unibrow would grow or the bridge of the nose, that way you're not looking them in the eyes and most people can't really tell you're not.

I find it terribly difficult to maintain eye contact with boring or stupid uninteresting people.

Agreed. I either look around or slowly walk away. I have a short fuse when dealing with stupid people
