This is why we have courts is to decide the interpretation of the law not what people on the internet think it is. The only way to find out if you are within your rights if you are denied warranty is take them to court. Keep in mind all the auto manufacturers will fight you if you have a lemon as well and most of the time you need to hire a attorney to get them to follow the law. So in the end if you feel like you are in the right then take them to court.

If you guys think Ford doesn't void warranties, your smoking some good shit. Puff, puff pass. I've informed quite a few customers over the years their shit is voided. One just yesterday per Ford. Sure, you can fight it. Good luck.

Ever over simple intake and cat back exhaust?

As of right now, I'm only running axle backs. If Ford voids me over that I'll firebomb the dealership, the owners house, and as many relatives homes as possible until I'm captured or killed. Consider this my admission of guilt. lol

    Of course they do.
I'm just curious as to IF someone fought it... would they have a good case based on the Mag Act.

I don't own a 5.0, so I can be objective here. I've read every post before I put my .02 in, so here goes.

    1) I feel for the OP, but Ford will hang their hat on the fact that it was tuned. And they will connect the tune to the failure, as the MM Act dictates. I wish him the best, but it will be a tough fight to win.

    2) I believe there is a design problem with#8 cylinder but it only manifests itslef when there is a custom tune. That's no defense for a warranty repair.

    3) This is not an isolated incident or one particular tuner. The common denominators are are a custom tune, #8 cyinder, and cracked piston lands. If it were me, I would NOT put a custom tune in a 5.0, never ever. Unless of course my last name was Gates or Trump.
FRPP tunes excepted, as all the safeties are left in place, and are tested in ALL types of conditions, and all types of fuels. JMHO.

As many have noted, there have been almost no failures on supercharged 5.0s. It's not like those cars don't have custom tunes. What's the deal?

I'm not saying it will happen in every instance. Not all custom tuned cars have had piston failures, but all the failures have had aftermarket tunes. That's indicates a pattern for me that I woudn't bet my 5k motor on.

It may be CYA but Ford will come to court with TSB 11-7-7 in hand.

that is a good point, cid.

something else to consider is that the number of people with tunes is vastly greater than those with superchargers due to the reason that getting a tune is so ridiculously cheap and easy compared to adding a SC.

what are the statistics for #8 again? how many cars with tunes and what % of these had issues? go one step further and ask out of how many thousands of 2011-2012 gt's produced, how many had this problem stock?

    definitely seems like a minority.

Yes the failures are a minority no doubt. But, there's 3 people in this thread (including the OP) that have a blown #8 with an aftermarket tune. When's the last time you saw that many identical failures in the same thread? Red flag big time is all I'm saying.

not that i am doubting their experiences, it is just that i tend to view posts on a forum with a certain level of objectivity. sure a couple people in the large sample pool had problems and posted about it but if i were to go around screaming bloody murder every time someone posted a bad experience with their car on an internet forum, i would have died from insanity long ago.

I hear ya brother. My car isn't stock. We all take chances when we mod. I empathize with the OP and others. "There but for the grace of God go I"..

There's just too much smoke for me on this one. Too much of a gamble IMO.

There's actually a very valid reason they all in this thread. Cause someone went to all mustang boards posting his sob story and cross linking many threads making this seem like a much larger problem than it is. Then people with the popped pistons went posting in the other threads too. So what you have now is 15 threads on 15 boards with thousands of replies all over 4 popped pistons. Out of how many thousands of tuned 5.0's? I fail to see how this is a huge

Realistically, if there was 2600 tuned cars out there and 4 popped, that's .1%. 99.99% live rate. Industry would be tickled if they could achieve that sort success.

The fact is that this motors weakest link is the pistons, with #8 being the first to go due to am unknown factor. Maybe heat, maybe knock sensor sensitivity issue. Either way, they live when stock which means ford supplied is with a motor that does exactly what it was designed to do.

Even if the weakest part failed at 1000 rwhp, the same people would be crying that ford should warranty it! It's substandard parts! Why can't I mod my mustang?! OMG I'm selling it to go buy a (insert whatever) cause they don't have this issue (when in reality the same shit happens online with them too, IE new camaro clutch).

No matter how overbuilt the motors are, someone will find the limits and then criers will scream that it should be warrantied when it breaks no matter what mods are done.

Tuners are learning his these motor work and what works on them. I'm afraid to have to say that someone has been the result of a learning curve. It's what happens when you buy new technology and are the first to have it modded. Any rational mechanical person can look for 30 minutes at all data available and easily see what's going on.

I think the 5.0 sales just slowed down alot after all this.

Mustang sales outpaced the camaro for may/June/July. Camaro was higher by 1k units in august, suspected due to release of convertible.

Anyone who let's a couple of problems not even related to as delivered condition affect their decision to purchase the (arguably) best pony car built ever, then so be it. I'm gonna enjoy the f*** outta mine. Their loss. Ive owned 9 mustangs (plus a couple of parts cars), including 2 03 cobras and this is the best built, most comfortable, best performing (as delivered) one yet.

This thread would not discourage me in the least from buying a 5.0 (I've considered adding one to the stable). I just wouldn't tune it.

well, in that case it is irrelevant because this issue had not been discovered yet.

Just for clarification, Mustang did outsell Camaro in June of this year.
