I'm heading to the local tire store to order a set of drag wheels and tires.

What would be the best tire size for a 750 rwhp car with the stock 3.55 gear? I'm thinking 26 inch tall. Should I go taller?

I'm looking at a Hoosier slick. Anybody think this is a good drag tire?

Also, I will get either Racestar or Weld RT 17 inch for the front. What tire are people running up front?

Looks like you want to run some times at the track, the Welds would be good for street but for the track Bogarts are way lighter and will give you best e.t.'s I would go with 28" diameter stiff wall MT's 10.5 inch.

I come up with a 135 trap with a 26 inch tall tire and a 145 trap with a 28 inch tall tire. I guess the 28's would be the eay to go.

26" is too short IMO

27-28" is a better diameter.

28" probably the better choice

You should trap about 135 with that h.p. and rear end 28" tires, I'm going from personal experience with the same set up. I would be concerned about the rear end holding together unless you have adressed that.

I should trap 145 with 28" tires and 750 rwhp should be enough to trap that speed.

I have BMR UCA and LCA's. I think the differential can handle 1.5x sixty footers at least several passes.

What more would I need?

Very nice. That is exactly what I am going with.

Have you driven on the street with the skinnies up front?

I've ripped out two stock posi units with 1.50, 700+ HP and 28" slicks. Just sayin.

Oh and he's correct. 750-ish, 410s and 28's will net you 135-140. Not 145. (unless you have some magic stuff going on).

based on what max RPM?

my spread sheet yields these numbers for that combo (approximate):

4.10s and 28"

6000 122
6100 124
6200 126
6250 127
6300 128
6400 130
6500 132
6600 134
6700 136
6800 138
6900 140
7000 142

for 3.73s and 28"

4th
RPM Speed
6000 134
6100 136
6200 139
6250 140

All I know is that I'm going to try 26' tall tires mt et street bias ply cause I've been running 28's and my best mph has been 133 in the 1/4 with a best 1/8 of 108. I'll report back with results. According to research 3.73 with 26' tall tires will give you the same ratio of a 410 with 28' tires. By the way my hp is about the same of the op.

Dave,

I cross at 6500-6600. Your spreadsheet is correct for my configuration. Keep in mind that a 28x10.5x15 stiffwall grows almost an inch @ 130mph.

And for those that think the 3.73s look like a good idea.... You'll never get to the rpm to attain 140+ traps with 700-750 rwhp.

ahh, makes sense, I was not accounting for the growth as I mostly deal with radials and they don't grow like a slick.

Have some street miles on them, the front is what you would expect from a tire wheel combo designed to go straight & shed weight !

I have the stock 3.55 gear. I come up with 145 mph at 6200 rpm on 28 inch tall gears in fourth gear.

you'll need more power and/or more final gear (tire + rear) to get to 6200 RPM in 4th...or more track. Don't think 145 trap with current configuration is realistic. 135-138?

750 RWHP? Really?

My 2003 Cobra was trapping 133 mph with 600 rwhp but I had a 3.90 gear.

Still, I would think 750 rwhp will trap 145.

how much does the car weigh?

FWIW - I only got to the track with mine once (told not to come back without a bar), car made 770whp on a MD and it trapped 137-139 with crap launches (2.0-2.2 60's). Probably at a weight or around 4100-4150.

when sfadachi had the car it trapped 146 on a 1.46 60' with 960whp tune on a DJ in Florida.
