Not everyone has local tuners trustworthy enough and I have issues with long-distance tuning as well. difficult and dangerous on public roads to get the data needed and all to easy to just blow off the person with the issue because they are so far away.
I had a canned tune on my last car (Hypertech). It kicked ass and my datalogs showed a pretty aggressive setup. Admittedly, I was fully bolted otherwise which was pushing the canned tune out of its range a good bit.
I have Procal, another canned tune, on my '12 GT and it also kicks ass, despite just being a canned street 91 tune. Very fun, wicked response, some gain up top and way better gas mileage. Datalogs show Ford MS playing it pretty safe with the calibrations but, is the risk really worth it for the handful of extra ponies one might get on a 400+ HP car? Not really, for me anyway.
