It could break and not seal correctly. It's aluminum go have it welded.
That needs to be ground out, filled in and smoothed.
Make sure you find someone with a lot of experience repairing cast parts like that.
The big thing most people miss with crack repairs is finding the ends of it. Something like that the welder may elect to cut it off completely and fill the gap.

Yeah I thought to myself this thread could deliver. Sadly....but hope you get it fixed man!
Have it welded and probably more importantly, have the face of it decked afterwards to ensure it's flat and not warped from the heat/welding.
Based on thermal expansion, yes, I'd be concerned.
